I would argue that the Abrahamic religions are intolerant at the scripture level. Eye for an eye? The old testament is really quite blood thirsty, and the new testament has it's moments.

What makes them tolerant is the morals of modern society being applied. Society is much more liberal these days - do many people still believe that homosexuality is an offence to God and that they will go straight to hell?

No, but Pastor P***k in America probably does.

Can you apply that to other religions?
An eye for an eye is one thing, but it's different to saying "poke someone in the eye for worshipping a different God"

Islam, I believe, is not really mentioned. Neither are the eastern religions like Hinduism or Buddhism. There is however a very strong 'believe in me or you burn in the fires of hell' theme which does not promote believing in other religions

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

True, but it wouldn't be very good PR to say "well believe in me... or him... or not? Be right..."
But it's still not calling for violence.

There's some really serious discussions going on at the moment? Anyone want to fit some braided lines? New shock maybe? GSXR forks?

I should probably take these stories of escalating religious intolerance more seriously, but whenever the latest 'flag burning/book burning/improper cartoon' story comes on the news, I can't help but think of the old lyrics:

'clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right....'

Lets hope they all calm down soon.

zzzzzz. Religion is dull.

I died once.... I saw a white light, then some text rushed towards me, it said -

LEVEL 2.

Well the testaments were written by minority interests who didn't really have the political or military might to get away with direct calls for violence. However, searching the OT readily finds suitable quotes;

"And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn [you] away from the LORD your God"

Can I just say, I am not religious at all. These supposed terrorists are cowards with no hope of achieving sod all in life so hide behind religion to gain infamy instead. Many of them get brainwashed by more educated people to do their dirty work for themwhether bombing, shooting or just burning flags. Our leaders don't give a damn when they fight each other till it costs us money(or oil). I don't want my relatives or mates out in these places fighting for oil FFS. I don't just have a problem with islam but I do have more reason than some. What about the rest of em like the popes young boys club? And we are welcoming him to our country! I work in a company with a lot of islamic employees who are NOT terrorists who I have a good laugh with. The subject of religion is usually avoided!! If this bloke wants to burn a book let him do it but don't give him fame/infamy either.
