But it doesn't, I can sell that combination of food all day every day, I can get the councils permission and set up a van outside the chefs restaurant and sell it to every passer by and there's no recourse in law.

I can call it by the same name as long as its not trademarked or I can call it by any other name.

for some reason, it seems more acceptable to copy content from large wealthy organisations or artists but then not so from smaller entities. Perhaps for the smaller artists we can see the personal link more easily, understand the effect of our free-loading. On larger examples we think that its too small to effect them.

Strange but often true.

The biggest annoyance I have is that if I buy a DVD these days, I am forced to watch a bunch of adverts and an anti-piracy speech which cannot be skipped. If I then went and illegaly downloaded the same DVD, some kind soul will have removed that rubbish. ARGH!

If anything it'll make people want to get on it more. Took me about 3 seconds to think about how I could get round it when I heard Sky had blocked it, and funnily enough it worked.

it's true if hard copies were cheaper people would not download as much. i joined blockbuster online a good few years ago and have never downloaded a movie again. for the princely sum of £12 a month i can watch a movie almost every night with no late return fees, i usually get about 3 movies a week as i don't like having to leave such a gap or order dregs. if i like a particular movie i will go out and buy the blu-ray/dvd for my collection which disgusts me at the price i have to pay £20+ for some of the new 3d blu-ray's but averaging £11 for a normal blu-ray but unlike most people i want a quality viewing pleasure. ooohhh and i also go to the cinema.

ban downloading of illegal copyright material tomorrow for all i care but don't go picking on file sharing because some people abuse it. i hate to mention it but nothing is ever said about the long lost and secret of alt.binary.????

On 2nd june I went to the cinema to watch Prometheus with the wife. I spent £20 on tickets and 2 small popcorn. 2 hours later I regretted ever going.
If I had waited and downloaded a poor copy to watch, at least then I could have decided there and then whether it was worth spending the money. In my humble opinion it was not!
Last Friday I actually bought a game because I was able to try before I bought it and have no regrets.

Conclusion: Watch a carp copy of a film, if you like it then go to the cinema or wait till it's on DVD and go buy it. If your a gamer then the principle is the same, try a copy off Pbay and if you like, go and buy it.

I agree that if everyone pirated and never gave any money to film/game creators then we wouldn't have any. So in the end we would lose out.

As for the court ruling, what a waste of time. ISP's denied access directly, but not indirectly.

Long live Piratebay

Free advertising. Friend of mine is in a fairly small band but have albums released, they don't make hardly any money on CD's.
Make good music, every bugger downloads it.

Then go do a gig, people pay in, buy T shirts, get drunk and laid... life is good.

Big bands having massive houses and silly "cribs" lifestyles losing money to file sharing... here is me playing a tiny open source violin... Long live the pirate bay yarrr.
