Kate

Glad to hear you're relatively unscathed from what could have been a very nasty situation.

I can only agree with the posts recommending kepping a diary.

I had my accident in August, but it was November before I had the official medical assessment - it's hard trying to remember how long it took before I could do various menial things. Apart from the obvious 'How long before you went back to work', they're interested in stuff like:

- How long did it affect your ability to wash/dress yourself?
- How long did it prevent you from doing normal household chores?
- How long before you could ride/drive again?
- What was the affect on your mental state when you resumed driving/riding (i.e. were you unduly nervous, or as you've mentioned, unwilling to commute by bike anymore)?
- Were you depressed/down following the accident (quite common if you can't get around by yourself)?

If you're going to take any photos of your injuries, make sure they are recognisable as you, i.e. include your face in the photo. I didn't do this, and the doctor filing the report was not permitted to look at the photos because I could not prove they were of me.

If you have any lower leg scarring, wear a skirt to the medical, then it stands more chance of being recorded as a visible scar.

Also, if you have no recent medical history of back problems (or other problems relating to the site of your current injuries), ask your GP to write a letter confirming this. The doctor who did my assessment did not apply for my medical notes from my GP (I'd just assumed that she would), so she only had my word for it.

Insist of private physio paid by the insurer of the other party asap. I didn't push for this and have only just started my physio some five months after the accident.

Sorry for the long post, but I've found the whole process of claiming for injury and personal losses to be extremely long-winded and frustrating.

Most of all, take your time, and do let your friends and family help. Here's hoping for a swift recovery.

Take care

Jo

Yee Gods Kate,

I am sorry I just caught this thread

I am glad your ok and you make sure you rest up, take all the time you need, and I am sure by the sounds of it you are getting a lot of TLC.

Don't try to rush about, just take it real slow and easy.

Christ Kate!

Just logged in after updating a web site to read this story.

Glad you're RELATIVELY unharmed after that - you should have choked the git in hospital.

Hope it all works out.

Hey Kate, hows the tomato plant?

Guys, I have big respect for Kate. I go and visit her a day after the event and she looks and sounds totally normal, apart from walking around a bit slowly. After getting thrown over a car, it's like nothing happened.
