I'd expect an empty thread if said bloke surfaced on here with a completely valid and more convincing arguement for this whole thread.. Because most has already comitted to one side and slated accordingly

Lyle - thanks for your comments, I know where you are coming from. I actually showed the thread to my OH last night in a "please look at this and dont hit the roof manner" and it actually helped him to realise what a ti* he was the last ride out. He apologised to me, and we went out today and had a really good ride. Much shorter, much more productive.
  • I know passing a test doesn't make you a good rider, the only thing that will do that is experience. Which I need to ride to get.
  • To all those who wanted to break into the container - I now have my bike garaged at home, so I can get it out any time I like.
  • OH can be controlling and manipulative, but I think a lot of his comments were on a big "worry front (lyle again you're probably right!) He is the one who will be calling my parents, and while he was worried, he went overboard, there was no need to say I wasn't safe. I didn't drop the bike mid corner, it was after turning out of a junction, and I felt like i was tooclose to the kerb, I was tired and cold. I probably didnt explain that well.
  • It probably wasn't fair of me to post on here, giving such a one-sided view, but thats how I felt after the ride out, and that is what he said to me.
  • Today I'm much happier to say "No" to him if i dont want to do something, because he realises after seeing this that he knows "jack ****" compared to most of you folks, but still more than me, and while I have never met any of you, I trust you enough not to give advice that is going to hurt someone.
  • I took the lead in the ride out today, and I felt much better I cornered well, I managed good speed even leaning the bike.
  • Comments from OH - nothing but praise, positive comments and constructiveness. SO this thread had ta positive effect on him and the way he speaks to me.
  • We went a much shorter route, on roads that I know well, which helped to boost my confidence that bit further.
  • I didnt want to upset anyone, or cause any upset on the site - so I apologise if I have done that... I just wanted opinions, honest ones and I got them, tbh a couple of them may have shocked my OH enough to seriously buck up his ideas.
Thanks to everyone who commented, for your advice and wisdom, and words of warning. I do apreciate it. Really.

Jen

Congratulations!

Glad it went well for you and also that the other half has seen sense.
My mrs (also Jenn) is off to do her CBT shortly and I know that I will worry about her but its her choice at the end of the day, were all old enough to be doing what we want to be doing.

Ah, all's well that ends well then At least, as you say, some good has come out the thread, Lylej does make good and fair points but I think it's safe to say we all tend to take the side of the one who's been "badly done to" and tbf, those comments he apparently made were bang out of order!

But if he's seen the error of his ways and just gives you that little bit more respect then I for one think it was worth putting the thread up.

Enjoy every bit of your riding hun, with or without your fella riding with you, it's just a wasted skill if that fun is left out of it! Well done you for showing him the thread too, bet that took a bit of courage!

So fenjer, is he going to sign up to the site to get some tips for his own riding/bike mechanics?

As others have said, I'm really pleased that this has turned out to benefit you!

To the OH, it takes a big man to realise his mistakes & back down from his position. Good man!

Wait a while fenjer (to get more replies), then ask him to look at the thread again.

I think I will Baph - It was a rather brave thing to do, he needs while to digest stuff so while he didnt hit the roof last night I could tell he was pi$$ed off with himself, and he came out this morning with a much clearer head, none of his "today we're going to overtake, go faster blah blah blah" rubbish.

I'm glad I did it, I think the result went the right way.

*phew!*
