Default 93 zzr600 leccy problem

Went for a little ride today got to my brothers house and as i went to pull into his drive I clutched in went to drop it a gear to make the turn and it just died. All electricity gone. When I put the key in the ignition the lights work and the oil light flashes all like it should do prior to starting the bike but when I press the ignition button It tries to get going but then all I get is a clicking sound and the rev counter goes to 3k if I keep it held down. I dont have a manual for this bike as Ive only had it a very short time. Managed to get the seat off but all that gives me is a junction box and all the wires I can see look like they are fine.

Any Ideas are most appreciated and if anyone knows how to get the battery out of this thing then that would be awesome.

thanks in advance

The clicking sound is usually caused by low voltage

I'd say reg/rec and charging circuit

Agree with Yorkie Chris. Sounds like a flat battery. Could just be a bad connection. If you get it started, put the headlights on and raise the revs from tickover. If they get brighter it normally means the battery is getting a charge, but need to put a meter on it to confirm.

Good morning.

I'm guessing it's a D model, as on the E model the battery is visible when you remove the seat.
On a D model the battery is under the air intake, which itself is directly under the front of the seat. You have to remove 2 bolts to get the intake off.

Check your charging as suggested, regulator/rectifier units are a bit of a weak point on the ZZR6.

Cheers.

It seems like its a loose wire thats grounding out on something. I managed to bump start it fine and then left it for about 10 mins just running. Switched it off and then it started fine on the button. Got about half way home and lost the lights then the engine gave up about another 500 yards after the lights went. Pulled over and it wouldnt start on the button and if i put it on side lights all the lights that were ment to worked but on main beam none of them did. I managed to bump it again and get home and the lights worked once it was running again.

Im guessing its a just a crap wire somewhere so im going to take as much of the fairing appart as i can tonight and tape up all the connectors nice and tight and hopefully that should fix it.

IIRC, you can get the usual problems with side stand switches on the ZZR, I've been having a nose round on the ZZR international forum since i got mine. could try and search there man.

Does sound like a reg/rec issue though, maybe a bad connection there, as the rubber grommit covering the termnals on the unit is pretty naf and not a good fit.
