Yes, completely crap journalism. Heaven forbid that kids learn to make catapults (not 'guns' as the article says).

I loved the sarcastic quote from the Evening Standard web site:

"This is a very dangerous idea. Kids could make atomic bombs out of LEGO, and just think what would happen if some Islamic terrorist get hold of a copy. The possibilities are terrifying."

Got my first shotgun at 13, .22" rim fire rifle at 16, 0.45" pistol at 17, 7.62 rifle at 19 and then more.

What is the problem with this country and guns.
Guns don't kill people, people kill people. plus if you ban guns, only criminals will have them. We have worse gun crime now than before the ban. Politicians and hysterical journalism led by the PC brigade.

Now lego being used to make toy guns is being got at. Let kids play FFS

Quote from a happy owner;

The book starts out with an short introduction that explains the authors' motivation for writing the book, and an interesting discussion about the process of actually getting a model designed for production. You don't normally think of bureaucracy when you see a Lego model, so it's surprising in some ways. I particularly liked their comparison of the instructions included with Lego kits to dishes at Taco Bell: In both cases, you want to make several different things with the same, small set of ingredients.
The Lego product safety standards are (of course) discussed in some detail, and more or less boil down to the question "could it poke an eye out?" (And poking eyes out is frowned upon.)

Love the eye poking out bit. How many times as a kid was I told this? But I never did have anyones eye out with a stick!!

Times have changed havn't they!
I remember going clay and rabbit shooting in the 70's, then off to the pub for a pint. We would go in the pub like mexican bandits all wearing cartridge belts, leave all the guns by the door.
You could even buy a shotgun from the mail order catalogue Grattons with easy payments. (over 18's only )

yeah but just you be careful with that mod stick of yours!

anyway, Lego rocks - and this book can only help add a new dimension

In fact it's inspired me to hold another 'lego party' again soon - a few years ago loads of my big kid friends came round and we sat on the floor and made stuff out of lego, like the good ol' days. apart from the ingenious outputs, it was great to see how possessive some people get over particular pieces

Oh for god sake, sorry but here is where I do get angry. I'm going to counter with "hysterical right wing diatribe led by Charles Bronson wannabees". If this forum is constantly going berate anything in the name of safety and equality as "hysterical lefty PC types" then start using some intelligence in your arguments and for once just get your facts straight.

Now for some facts. Gun crime has increased since Dunblane yep. Use some common sense and look at how the classification of gun crime has changed in that time. "Gun crime" now covers pot shots at cats with air rifles and water pistols being used to hold up post offices. Look at the real gun crime, ie. how many people have died due to real guns blowing real people's brains out and gun crime has stayed more or less the same.

Number of fatal shootings in 98/99: 49
Number of fatal shootings in 99/00: 62
Number of fatal shootings in 00/01: 72
Number of fatal shootings in 01/02: 95
Number of fatal shootings in 02/03: 80
Number of fatal shootings in 03/04: 68
Number of fatal shootings in 04/05: 77
Number of fatal shootings in 05/06: 49
Number of fatal shootings in 06/07: 58

Now, none of this is anything to do with the Lego book. That's in no way cooked up by liberal lefties any more than I can say every gun toting suburbanite is a Dunblane waiting to happen. As a liberal lefty PC type I find the lego book idea hugely ammusing, great idea, and I'll doubtless be buying a copy.

But if you're going to start making sweeping accusations at the leftie crowd then hell, I'm going to start stereotyping the right wingers as hysterical unhinged gun toting monsters too. Get some perspective please.
