Default When does she need a major service?

Right my SV's just coming up tp 24,000 miles, V reg 99 SV650S as far as i am aware its never had a major service (not since ive had it any way dont know about before i dout it as it had 15,000 miles and was in good nick) - obviously oil changes and a general service has been done many a times.... i have a BMC and Irridium plugs and filter and oil has only just been changed etc.

What does the "major" service include i know its valve clearance checks and carb checks but what else and how much am i looking at for it and how long do they take?? a rough price would be good.

Only reason i am asking is shes not running smooth and really is starting to run like shes an old bike not a 10 year old bike and when i first got it she ran so smooth and no rattles etc so wandering if its time??

Thanks

Ash

Grab a copy of the manual from this site - it details what is done when - just ignore the mileages they give - they round them funnily

The 1st service is @ 600 miles, the second and subsequent should be 4k miles apart (not 3.5k in some cases and 4k in others).

so yours is due its 7th service

If you don't know when it was done, now might be a good time. If it's made it to 24,000 without a valve clearance check I'd make that a priority. May well be fine, but you'd want to know. From there checking the cables are lubed, air filter is clean, choke cables are in good nick & carbs are ballanced should make the motor nicer.

That aside fork oil, shock linkages, swingarm bearings, head races. These goit any clean oil / grease in them any more?

What do you mean any more? Didn't think they came with any as standard

Head races are the bearings the steering pivots on.
