Default SV curvy Cam tension quick fix

My SV Cam belt is making noise again after a 1 1/2 years of being fixed at a garage. SV is running fine apart from the rattle... now sounds like a Ducati

Would like to sort it myself

any tips?

Cheers!!

Well, the quick fix is to just back the tensioner off with a screwdriver and let it ping back in a couple of times, add a bit of oil while you're at it... Quite effective that, and easy enough if you have tiny tiny hands or a second wrist

Cam chain rattles are usually nothing to worry about, though. But the trouble is, when do you start worrying? I had one break, it was still working but it was almost jammed, I guess the spring snapped or bound up. That could have been nasty... But up til that point I thought "ah, it's just a rattle".

+ 1, the less expensive than getting a dealer to look at it route is to fit manual CCT's.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'm still green on the engine topic, so just a few finer questions and minutes of your time!

where about is the screw? how far to back it up? add engine oil? any chances of me making it worst? what a manual CCT?

Cheers guys

The front pots tensioner is on the sprocket side of the bike, on the rear of the cylinder, under the carbs. Undo the top 'cap' bolt and the screw is under there. If you buy a Haynes manual it's well described in there.

Manual CCT is a manual cam chain tensioner. Just means you set the tension yourself rather than relying on the spring to do it.

It's a f%%%pig to get to.

The camchain tensioners are a plunger with a spring to push them out and a ratchet to stop them moving back, they stick a little and let the chain slap.

The manual ones are a screw and locknut, and a better idea really. Not cheap though.

If you're not a big DIY'er I'd suggest getting someone to advise and laugh when you skin your knuckles.

Cheaper in the long run if you have to get a dealer to look at the OEM ones everytime.

Well aye, but if you've got to get a dealer to look at OEM ones then whats the chances of being able to adjust one manually without f###ing it up.
