Default It's now a single!

Here's a good one that's got me a couple of splinters in my fingers. Discovered, what to me would be a once in a lifetime oil leak, left hand side crankcase cover. I've never had one of these leak, ever! So, fix leak me thinks, job done. Fire up the bike so she can go play and it's become a single! Runs like a dream on only the rear pot, the front is firing but only intermittently and not hard enough to malke a difference the way it runs. you can tell it's only on one by the exhaust note and the temp' of the headers. As far as I can tell everything in the casing is solid state and has no dicernable connections to disturb, the only disturbable ones are somewhere near the batterybox. Oh and the rev counter has stopped working. The bike is a CAT4 stolen recover that the owner didn't want back.

My questions are:

Where does the tacho pick up it's signal from?
Could this just be a chopped wire that needs sorting?
If so where in the loom is it most likely to have been hacked to get it to go?
Is this a known fault with what I thought was a bullet proof bike?

Long white ceramic thingy with a metal end on it . Plug should be good, it ran fine till I pulled the crancase cover. tbh, I can't see it being a plug fault, it's too sudden an occurance, plus none of them were disturbed during the gasket fix. Worth a look tho' while I got it in bits.

Try the feed to your front HT coil (just under tank on left side, spade connector to front end of coil). Can't remember what colour the cable is but I'm sure someone will be along soon who can.

Yep the front rev counter is linked into the coil for the front cylinder, so if it not working you will loose the rev counter too. It could just be disconnected or a broken line, even a duff coil, so swap it with the rear and see if the problem moves. The coil for the front is on the left side on under the tank attacked to the frame, the rear coil sits under the tank but where the hynge joint is. The contact is easy to knock off, I did it myself when I reconnect the breather pipes for the air box.

Thanks for the answers guys, it was the front coil. Tracked it back thro' a wiring diagram and came to the same conclusion. The wire was broken just off the connector, looks like a ham fisted fitting of the airbox. Did my head in for a while as to why removing the crankcase cover could do this but, it must have been the straw to break the camels back as it were. Damned thing goes like a scalded cat now so must have been gammy for a while, loks like the missus lost her bike for a bit while I go play on it
