Rounded Nut?

I have managed to round the nut at the end of the swingarm, the one used for tightening the chain, so two questions:

1. How the hell do I now get it off?

2. Where can I get a replacement?

3. Is there a particular part no?

OOps that 3 questions.

How did you knacker it? - it doesn't carry any load.

Undo the spindle and pull the wheel back a dab, then the nut won't be under any tension - you'll probably be able to undo it with your fingers, (unless the thread is goosed too).

It's an M8 nut and nothing special, (well, the original is flanged, but any nut that fits will do), so any hardware or DIY shop or similar.

Yes, Suzuki probably give it a number, (although it may be supplied part of the adjuster assembly), but it's just a nut.

As SS says, plus in answer to question one: try using a 12 sided socket (sometimes even a slightly different sized one- eg the nearest imperial size) on the end if it is already so cheesed off as to be ruined. You'll still have to replace it, but it should be easy(ish) to get it off. I've even heard of people hammering 12 sided sockets onto an offending rounded nut to get if off, but that smacks of a real bodge (and of course there is scope for marking, or even knackering the socket, even if you protect the back end with a rag)!

or even file 2 sides flat enough to fit a adjustable spanner on to it...

In my experiance, a 6 sided socket will almost always grip better than a 12 sided one, especially if the nut is past it's best, as it applies force to the flats rather than the points of the nut. As SS points out though, once the axel nut is undone there should be no load at all on that nut.

Quite a few mechanical woes of late!
A rounded nut in that situation should not really be a problem if your going to tackle a chain adjustment competently. If your not sure, I'd get it done at a shop tbh

The chain is on its last legs, I was giving it its final adjustment prior to replacing the chain and sprockets this week.

......and it is proper rounded, but as mentioned once the axel is wound off the wheel adjuster will be under no load and should be easy to get off. Always helps me to get a bit of reassurance from more competant peeps than me before doing something.

Rounding a nut and sinking the Beemer aren't quite in the same bracket, but I have to say it does sort of follow suit............my luck is poxed!

Well rounded nuts are no problem...

... don't they just get released into 'Care in the Community'?

How on earth do you round that nut? I would say its impossible, but it looks like it isnt! you have undone the spindle?
