Default Stalling problem.

PROBLEM STALLING
Hi, I just purchased my first bike. It's a 2003 sv650s. I just got it a couple days ago. It has 22,000 miles and seems to run great except for one problem. The bike will intermittenly die abrubtly when closing throttle. I will be riding along just fine but when i pull the clutch the bike will die, mostly noticed just when coming to a stop. It is entirely intermitten, most of the time the bike runs great. Most of the time it idles just fine at about 1200 rpm, but intermittenly it goes down around 850 rpm and seems to run rough. it is when the idle drops around 850 that the bike also seems like it will stall out. It will start right back up if you hold the throttle open, but will just die again right away if you let go of the throttle. It also backfired once when this happened. Any recommendations????? Any help would be apreciated as I am new to bikes.

Have you been out in the rain lately? Sounds similar, but not identical, to the symptoms of the wet front plug problem.

I had a similar problem, it was caused by a choked up air filter.

I also have a 2003 K3 650S and had the same problem originally.
I tended to find that it seemed to coincide when the bike wasn't warmed up fully and I had just set off, and perhaps also when the weather was a bit colder.
I've since got rid of the standard exhaust and fitted a K&N filter and I have increased the idle speed ever so slightly (still within recomended range though) and have not had the problem since (touches wood)

I would recommend checking the airfilter (replace if necessary or if its a K&N u can clean it with their recommended cleaner stuff) and i would check the plugs, if its a pointy k3 it will not have carbs as it will be fully fuel injected and should manage its own mixture etc

I had a problem with my curvy 99 which was similar. Turns out there is a dodgy connection somewhere and re-routing some wires seems to have fixed the problem.

Definately has not gotten wet at all. I'm in arizona. The dryest place in the country.

Mine seems to do it everytime I get off the freeway and have been flogging it a bit. Definately at full operating temp.
