Talking Mobile phones - a cheap way to ring expensive 0800/0845 numbers

Anybody else having problems with the cost of phone calls to Insurance companies?

I have spent (wasted?) a few days banging my head against various brick walls trying to sort out insurance ( for Feb 1st - like that's going to happen )

I'm having to use a mobile to ring for quotes as I recently moved house and the nearest mates with a landline mean a 90 mile round trip
Most insurance companies use 0800 or 0845 numbers - these are expensive to ring from my mobile
As I'm after a multi-bike policy I can't do quotes online as thier systems can't cope.

call rates are here
http://www.o2.co.uk/mobilestariffs/t...specialnumbers
0800* 20.4p/min 15p/min
0845 20.4p/min 25p/min

Found an interesting site which lets you call these "premium" 08xx numbers for the cost of a local call
0800 for free http://www.qxcall.co.uk/index.php?op...=65&Itemid=111
0845 from 1.5p/min http://www.qxcall.co.uk/index.php?op...=73&Itemid=121

This useful info came from

Trust students to find a way to do stuff on the cheap eh

Another site that might also be worth a look (I've not tried it) http://www.0800buster.co.uk/

Hope it helps !

In other news, me not a happy bunny this week
My 3 bike policy last year (age 40+, 4yrs NCD, city centre, main bike ZZR110 monster) cost £116 TPFT.
Quotes for similar 3 bike policy ( middle-of-nowhere countryside, 5yrs NCD, main bike SV650S Curvy) start at £280

Suggestions for affordable legal multi-bike cover wecome - feel free to PM me rather than turn this into another "rip-off insurers" thread mini-rant over

cheers

www.saynoto0870.com is also a good site for finding 'normal' geographical number alternatives to 0870 / 0844 / 0800 etc so if you're calling from a mobile it's included in your free minutes. I use it to call my telephone banking all the time
