Spray some WD40 on a cloth (or directly on the wheel if its that bad) and scrub!

It won't take too much effort and will come out like new

Never had this tbh. Although I use degreaser on my wheels, Either autoglym motorcycle cleaner or some proper stuff out of a metal tub (I can't remember what it's called but its old, and brilliant lol). Always seems to pull anything off my wheels when need be

ACF50 is better than WD40 as it leaves a coating behind and will protect for a couple of months, unless of course you actually like doing them every week

Dazza, are you sure it's not salt rather than mould if you're based by the coast? Plus the roads are rather coated in the stuff at the moment.

Another +1 to parafin or wd-40. I've used white spirit to good efect too when that bottle was nearer but I've made sure I washed it off again very well afterwards.
