There is a nick in the rubber just below the rim edge but unless you're cranked right over I don't think this would cause any problems.

Are the maxxis ones the ones with the diamond tread on the edge? and are there any flat spots on the tyres?

There isn't much difference in cost to send a set or just a single tyre.
