Default Pointy airbox modification?

Has any1 done this mod? If so..what`s the purpose of it?
It came along with my bike and it`s BMC air filter.
i couldn`t upload images due to unknown reasons(server wasn`t responding) so here are photobucket links

Probably done to make it noisier, same reason that some people take the rubber "snorkel" off .

dont is my advice. the pointy has a heat shield and you run the risk sucking it onto the airbox. believe this or not but on modern bikes the air box is part of the induction.

Do you think the aftermarket BMC air filter has something to do with the extra holes? The bike is running terribly rich..it reaks of gas

no i think it's something else, what that else is i dont know. if there are more holes and an aftermarket filter it would have more tendency to run lean.

I`ll close the extra holes with wire tape(is it called that way? The thing u use to isolate wires xD)

I suggest duct tape, the silver fabric reinforced stuff. Apply it to both inside and outside..

dict tape would be great, but sadly there is no such thing on the market here. There is something similar but not as strong. For now it`ll be ok, it`ll hold cuz i used another tape i found so..tomorow i`ll test it. Gotta go to work soon

I can feel a little diference in the sound, nothing else..the torque is the same as far as i can tell, and the backfire is still there.
