Default I've finally bought a R1150GS

I'm off tomorrow to finalise the deal on a R1150GS. My last deal fell through when I found owner wasn't the registered keeper. Now I've stuck with a BMW dealer.

First point. Dealers offer you a 17% apr plan.

Do not take it.

Ask for BMW's financial plan at 3.4%. They will say it's not available on second hand bikes. Strange you say, another BMW dealer where you test rided that other model says it is. Oh wait we'll check... sorry about that, you're right.

The R1150GS is 30KG~ heavier then the R1200 and as I found out today, it's noticable. It doesn't take 91 fuel but the majority don't care. It does come very close to the R1200 as it uses Bosch 2.4 injection. It'll still out-gun the SV MPG wise. The engines, while having a gimmicky 50cc less capacity, perform just the same.

The graphitan or black models looks nearly as good as the R1200.

I'm paying 5999 for a 02 plate. I would have had a 1200GS however my insurer was having none of it. On the 1150GS I'm going to pay 500quid TPO. On the 1200 I couldn't get insured.

Some 1150's have annodised front forks protecting from corrosion. Mine does, thankfully. You also get the same level of comfort as the R1200GS though optional engine bars from the Adventure are a must. Don't go for the absurdly poor plastic engine covers designed to protect against only scrapes.

Good luck and have fun with the new bike ....honestly think you are nuts to put a 6000 quid bike in TPO.

You do like that phrase don't you Cloggsy? I'm betting you nicked it from a teacher.

The bikes quite pricy given a new 1200GS is 8,800, but I haggled for free engine bars at 200 quid. So she'll be mine on Friday...
