hello, im going to do the 4000m service tommrow and i think i can work out what i have to do as i have the list of things to do, unfortanly i cant download the manual as the work comp wont let me theres just a few things i need to ask.
my idle speed is about 1000rpm when cold and about 1300rpm when warm but it seems to jump up to 1400rpm and back to 1300 every couple of seconds, is this normal? if not how do i fix it? im going to lube my clutch cable can i use the same stuff as im going to use to spray a bit round my spark plug to keep the water out? and also my throttle grip seems to have come a bit lose and moves left and right about 3mm is this ok i cant rember if it was like that when i got it, anyway i think thats about it cheers for the help guys n girls |

passed the mot and did the servicing, its crazy what they charge if u take it to a garage, took under 2 hours and was soo easy! recomend any 1 to self service for the 4000,
nearly failed my mot on the rear tyre tho, he quoted me £90 for the new real with fitting is this any good? he gunna match it with what ive got on the front what i still think is origanal, think its a metzar or suimin does this sound good or should i shop around abit?? ordering my scorpian today to :P ![]() |

If I was you, I'd not put another Mez 4 on it, they're not very good. But then you get into the whole debate about mismatching tyres etc.

hmmm ive read about the mismatch thing dont supose u know what i could put on but would work well with the metzar on the front?

Well... It's personal choice I think. Myself, I could care less if I mismatch. I've done a few thousand miles with a Roadtec front and Avon Azaro rear, which are 2 tyres with very different handling characteristics, and it never bothered me. Got a Roadtec front and 020 rear just now, which is working just fine too, till I get the dodgy bearing in my #1 wheel replaced.
But, don't take that as being the same as "It's perfectly safe, go for it". I'm perfectly happy to do it myself but I'd not be happy for people to do it just because I do, if you know what I mean?

Mix matching your tyres is (at least for me) not so much of an issue. However having a softer stickier compound on the rear than the front is not advisable at all.
Tyres when bought in pairs i.e. both Z6's, the front will be a softer compound than the rear. It's the way it's supposed to be and for a good reason. It is far easier to recover a rear wheel slide than a front one. A front end slide normally means "game over". Where as the rear can break away quite a bit and still be recovered. If you have a softer compound on the rear, you will more than likely lose the front end before the rear, giving you no chance of recovery. So if you do decide to mix the tyres, bear this fact in mind. I think personally I would put another standard rear on and wait for the front to wear out and change the pair next time. Either that or sacrifice what tread you have left on the front and change the set. |

I've got to say go the whole hog and replace the front at the same time - the oe Metzelers are rubbish and you will enjoy your bike soo much more with a decent tyre. I like BT 020's - have just posted re these on another message 'tyres' so read about mine and others experiences there.
I'll now happily stick with these and just replace rear next time. |
