Last time I had a heavy clutch, it was because the lifter assembly has spat its bearings. (actually, that's a lie- last time i had a heavy clutch, it was because the heated grips had got turned around, and the wire was in the way of the lever). Just stripped and cleaned it, and it's fine- smooth as a baby's bottom. All properly adjusted, before someone suggests it
![]() The lever perch was a little bent, but I've replaced it today with a GSXR one (for no othe reason than that it was cheap, really, but I prefer the adjuster mechanism. Incidentally, I just realised I've left the rubber boot from the SV on the cable, but it won't fit the GSXR one. Dang.) No difference The cable's fine- I've lubed it anyway on general principles but it's not the issue. What else would cause a heavy clutch to develop? It's got fairly new clutch springs in it (OEM) but that shouldn't cause this- it was fine when I fitted them, I can see no reason it'd get worse over time. I did notice at the time that the basket was a little notched... It's not heavy enough to be a problem, but it's just slightly annoying. And it might get worse of course. I've got to get the side casing off in a few weeks anyway once I get my new inner gasket, to fit a Factory Pro EVO shift star... Just wondered if there's anythign else I should check for. Might just throw one of hte spares in and see if it makes any difference...

Check the clutch push rod is not bent, the notching is an issue but more because it will made the clutch grabby (notchy) rather than heavy (I think). Sure the springs were the right length? Other than that there is nothing else I can think of.

Push rod's fine. At least, if it's bent it's only fractional. The springs were right on the right length.

A notched basket won't make the clutch heavier, the plates may fail to separate but the lifter will still push the pressure plate off. Did you fit your existing lever to the new perch? If so are they fully compatible? Is the lever wider than the perch and thus a tight fit?

Nope, it came with the lever- good thought though. The feel was exactly the same before and after the lever and perch swap.
