Default Bennetts beware

A month ago, swapped my insurance from Bennett's to e-bike
£140 cheaper per year
Phoned Bennett's 2 days before policy ran out to cancel,
they still took the money out and sent me the insurance policy ,
I phoned again to explain and they informed me that the money would be refunded.
4 weeks later after many phone calls, the money has not reappeared.
all though they have said that if i send in a copy of any bank charges that I have en-cured, they will have a look at it and reimburse me
It looks like I have many phone calls to go to retrieve my money, I just wanted to let you all know, Dont leave it too late before you cancel you're insurance

I have learn't this as well so now I make it a rule that if I cancel something I will always cancel the Direct Debit as well with the bank so then they can't take the money!

Hope it works out for you.

One of the beauties of internet banking - you're in control.

Yep. Also do things in writing and use registered post, that way they can't pull the old ' we have no record of this sir' routine.

Hope you get the cash back.

Just cancel the direct debit. Simple really.

I had fantastic service from bennetts when i insured with them the 1st year of riding. Just a shame that they are, for me, so expensive.

if it IS direct debit, your bank must give you a FULL AND IMMEDIATE refund, for any mistake made by them or the company taking the money.

see the direct debit guarantee

Yep, walk into (or phone) your bank and say:

"I wish to make a direct debit indemnity claim for x amount collected on x day"

If they argue, get it in writing, it makes it the bank's problem- the DD Guarantee is absolutely clearcut and there's no doubt your bank subscribes to it.

If they want to know why, you can do it on these grounds:

"No Advance Notice was received by the Payer or the amount quoted is disputed by the Payer"

or

"Where the payer has cancelled the DDI direct with the Originator, notwithstanding the fact that the Pater may not have cancelled the DDI with the bank."

Cash-monkeys will tell you they can't do it, or might say it takes x number of days. This is all cobblers Immediate refund, accept no substitute. That only works for the original sum though, any charges are going to be open to debate.

to elaborate on northwind's comment, the cash monkeys WILL NOT KNOW what you're talking about (if my branch of HSBC is anything to go by), If anyone tells you you

a) need to fill out a form, or
b) it will take 3 days

they don't know what they're talking about. I had to speak to a call centre manager when it happened to me (incorrect mortgage payment), he was the first person out of 5 people i spoke to who actually understood the guarantee and what it means.

Accept no excuses.

HSBC'll be the worst, I expect, they're a disaster for anything BACS related. If it's HBOS and they muck you about, drop me a PM with a contact name and number for them and yourself and I'll annihilate them for you
