Yet another "Stealth" tax. It sickens me and makes me angry to think that we can do nothing to stop it.

Nuts, better save money by getting a new bike every 3 years then.

i don't actually mind the MOT so much, after all you want to keep your bike safe right? even if some people will say they don't do it properly, in my mind it's better than nothing, and it's even better that they do at least limit its cost.

road tax, on the other hand...

It's not the MOT that bothers me, it's the fact that there is a set price for it that keeps on going up. After all if you're not happy with the cost of servicing you can go elsewhere, not an option with a goverment set price is it?

(Or do I have that wrong?)

With the increase of regulatory stuff that has gone into carrying out MOT's recently at least I can kinda see what the higher costs have gone towards.

It's also not the dodgy money spinner that it used to be for garages either - well, not in the sense that it used to be possible to MOT a vehicle in under 20 minutes - so they could stack'em n rack'em.

Now the DVLA-linked computer that all the details have to be entered onto has a minimum test time - so it's impossible to complete the MOT and get the certificate in under (I believe) 45 minutes. So garages can now only book in so many into a working day - and short of blatently sitting on their arses doing nothing, the mechanics are more likely to actually get on and do it right.
