Default Onboard alternative - everyones pocket! (video solution)

Onboard camera footage … here is an alternative to those that don’t have a video camera … a mate and I are just trialling this … its basically a recording device with AV in … our bullet cams will plug into the AV socket and this will record the video. Its very small and solid state, so should be easy to hide away and pretty robust, also at £63, not too many tears if it gets bust in an off

We are just rigging up a regulated 5v supply from batteries that should meet its power demands

Hmm, interesting find.

Now to source some cheep-ish bullet cams that run in 640x480 me thinks...

EDIT: Personal preference for power, resistor from relay attached to ignition positive.

EDIT 2: Just found a camera that I can wire to the bike electrics for £35. 640x480 resolution, with audio. Happy camper!

The SanDisk V-Mate apparently pushes 3½hours per gigabyte

will still need a 5v regulator even if you do that, lm7805 regulator will be perfect and a couple of quid

Most basic solution is to power via a 4AA battery pack ... you can get the holders from maplin for 59p

We are indeed making a 12v supply, regulated 5v circuit though

What's this camera you found Baph??

Adam, I wouldn't think of putting any audio/video solution on a stepped down rail without a regulator. Esp one that involves as many power fluctuations as you get on a bike's 12v circuit.

Blue, DogCam. 12v CMOS camera. I'll be mounting as the first pic on the site more than likely.

Later down the line I'll look into merging multiple camera's using a quad processor (if I can lay my hands on one small enough), something similar to this (middle pic half way down the page).

Blue, I've been digging around on this a little more.

I reckon I'm going to wait for you to trial it. I've read a couple of reviews that say the 640x480 video's are a little choppy. This could be down to the media speed though.

I'm also looking at 2 2GB SD cards at 120x, for just short of £20 each (here). Throw the CMOS 480 bullet cam from DogCam into that, with a couple of mounts. Approx £250 total. Not quite as cheap as I'd wanted, but I might be able to re-coup some costs by giving video to a mate

Post a vid & details when you've had a chance to try it out please

My Camera came from here. They do a good line in cameras & kits, and I've got a couple of different lenses for mine, with a pair of microphones (left & right) to give better stereo effect.

This year I intend to utilise one of the microphones to connect with my Autocom, so I can give commentary as I ride

I do need to sort out a better mount though, as I didn't have much luck in the Alps last time round on the 'Blade, but it was great on the GSXR600....
