Having been through the dodgy rectifier problem, AGAIN
![]() ![]() ![]() I found this on our sister site in Aus http://www.svdownunder.com/forums/index.php?topic=749.0 They know a thing or two about heat and it is generally accepted as one of the causes of electronic component failure Wot you all think? Tris |

Err, dont think so realy in the UK, our weather is not as hot as theirs. Mabey if you had underseat pipes or high levels right next to the regulator.

not sure on this one, it wont hurt but I dont know how much difference it will make.
I think the basic problem is crap reg/recs - heat may contirbute to early demise but I suspect it will happen anyway..... |

Interesting idea, a few years ago I had a GSX550 which was fitted with a very similar reg/rec as more modern Suzukis are, it was originally fitted in the middle of the bike just at the back of the tank, which is of course not an area that received much airflow. Well surprise surprise, reg/rec failures, the mod on the ever so slightly later bikes was longer wires and the bracket in a different spot - out in the airflow. Guess what? No difference, still reg/rec failures.
A fan *might* make a difference, I think it's impossible to really know, true it can't do any harm, but if you fit a better unit it'll be more reliable anyway.

GSXR SRAD regulators are nearly twice the size of the SV one, mabey they are better.
What about bolting the regulator behind the rear shock onto the undertray. Ive seen some bikes like that such as the SRAD where its mounted to the back of the frame and also acts as a heatsink.

I got one of a CBR6RR, apart from having to change the connectors it fitted perfectly.
Just buy a better RR

A few SV Rider guys have fitted PC fans to their reg/recs, they're rather handily 12V. Does it work? Who knows. There's a guy on Visordown that swears by adding a seperate earth for the r/r on Suzukis. Does that work? Maybe

So overall it looks like the jury is still out. I've gone for a better quality RR so hopefully that will help I'd rather spend theŁ70 on fuel than Cr*p regulators ![]() Tris |

Why faff? There's a recognised and easy fix for this problem - get a better RR - breakers yards are heaving with snotty old CBRs, just fit one and forget trying to reinvent the wheel.
