More so the indicators.
I ride to work for a bout an hour or so. Normaly about 45 mins into the ride my indicators become very dim. However if I switch off the headlights they are OK. The bike will fire up OK so I don't think it's a battery problem. I've had a scan on the search function and it seems to point to Rectifier Regulator jobee. The indicators are motrax LEDs with the LED relay fitted. I tried it without the relay and using the original and had the same result. I'd rather not ride without headlights on so am open to a few pointers. Aston |

How regularly do you charge your battery....maybe not enough? Certainly sounds like classic poorly charged battery or dying battery. Is the battery old/well maintained?
I would think that if they go from dim to fine when the headlights are switched off then there is not enough power ergo, first port of call is the battery. Give it a full charge(optimate) and then all should be fine....if not then reg/rec comes into play and other such gremlins. |

Does your bike always start OK? Does your headlight go dim as well? Everything else OK? Do you have an alarm?
If your bike always starts, and the headlight is not affetced, and everthing else is OK, then it's unlikely to be the battery or the charging circuit. Best thing to do is check the voltage across the battery terminals with the bike running. Should be about 14Vdc. When the fault kicks in do the same again. If you've got the same reading with the fault present, then you can discount the battery and charging circuit. If your other lights also dim, then the regulator/rectifier could be breaking down as it heats up. You could try a new one, or if it's accessable make sure it's clean and well ventilated. Not sure how it's mounted, but make sure any mounting bolts are nice and tight. It may depend on the chunk of metal it's mounted on to disipate heat. |

OK, tried the voltmeter. When cold she's knocking out about 13.5 V @ 5k rpm
However after riding for a bit on full beam, i checked again. This time I got 10.3 V @ 5k rpm. Also noticed today I've had the battery gassing ![]() Am I right in thinking the rectifier is goosed? If not I would think the alternator / Generator. not sure on how to check this though. |
