4-5 CM from the weld point where the pipe splits. straight through,. to be honest dont worry too much as the link pipe covers the cut by miles so as long as it not shorter than 3 cm it will be fine and go on ok.
use an angle grinder if poss, a hack saw takes ages, tires you out and breaks blades halfway through!! |

if you mean 4-5 cm from the weld at both ends of the cut then yes i think it is prefered, but mine is 5 from the top and 3.5 from bottom and the link pipe fits over with acres of coverage and no leaks of gas.

Hi there, I fit my CC a month ago and yes like they've said it's 45mm from the weld.
Regardless of whether you have an angle grinder or not, I do recommend removing the exhaust. It takes all of 10 minutes and I got a nice straight cut with a sharp hack saw blade. It's double skinned with insulation in between which really helped to keep the cut straight it didn't wander a bit and I was through it in 1 minute, well maybe 2 it's only hollow. Just lie the thing down on a firm surface (with padding like a big cardboard box) it's a doddle. DO NOT use a junior hack saw use a grown up one and you won't break a blade. At the same time you can change the rusty old header bolts in the front if they are old. The main thing is take my word for it don't try and hack it off in situe you'll just phaf on and get annoyed. |

Did you hack it off on the bike? It would be a pain that way. I'm glad it's all sorted. Did you get the road legal can that's what I got and sounds very nice.

Quick tip.....when cutting pipe with a hacksaw and you want a square cut, try wrapping two jubilee clips round your pipe to act as guides, one each side of the blade. You'll feel it if you go off line. Or Just use one or a cable tie to enable you to draw a line round the pipe.
On a different note....I hear that carbon fibre cans on a twin are a bad idea. The exhaust pulses are bigger and can cause damage to the can. Not that I know this from experience. Bigger twins will be worse for this so the SV650 might not be too bad. |
