Default Water leak.

Hi there

I have a slight problem which i want to find out about, when the bike is running i seem to get water splattering out of the rad cap area, i have checked for cracks or leaks but have found none it is only happening when the bike is running and therfore pressurised any ideas??

If its the cap any idea where i could get a replacemengt without having to buy the whole rad.

Also how much water should be in the rad?? should it be filled nearly to the top??

Cheers all

As I understand it the rad itself should be full right to the top, with an air space inside the expansion tank.

If I was faced with this, then I would probably try and find out..
Is it over-pressurising? (blown head gasket etc) If not then whats wrong with the rad cap itself.

But, what do I know

Chris

cheers for that however i dont think it has an expansion tank (not that i can see anyway) its the naked Sv not the S.
It isnt over pressurising as you can remove the cap after it has been running with only a small release of air not water rushing out of the rad.

The expansion tank is under the fuel tank on the right hand side, why has your cooling system got air in it though?

On mine, the radiator is always full to right under the cap, and as I understand this is correct, heating then causing a small amount to flow into the expansion tank via the rubber hose behind the rad cap.

Check that the cap is seated correctly, top up the radiator with fresh coolant and make sure your expansion tank is filled to the proper level, I reckon you've just got a bad radiator cap

Looks similar, might be worth a shot.

(I'm not a mechanic so don't take my word for it.)

Just had a look and found the expansion bottle but i cant see the level clearly as it has gone all opaque so will have another look tommorow in better light but the rad appears to be 3/4 full so will top up directly.

3/4 full sounds bad, get it filled up sharpish IMO
Shining a torch down the filler neck is a decent way to check, makes the liquid glow through the opaqueness (oooh blue....)
