Default Cutting the Exhaust!

Hello,

was thinking of getting a new exhaust for my sv650s k5. Whats the deal with cutting it? Is it best to avoid this and get a link pipe? Is there a jump in price in going for a exhaust with link pipe?

any info appreciated, not bought exhausts for motorbikes before!

cheers

dave

Sv Exhaust system is a welded system.

This means you have to cut it and get a can with a flanged link-pipe that goes onto the end of the cut pipe.

Its why the type of exhaust you need is also know as a slip-on exhaust.

Theres two ways to go

1. get a slipon can, that involves cutting the existing pipework just after the weld by the footpeg, then you fit the new can to this using some pipework that comes with it ( the link pipe ) most manufacturers supply a 2nd pipe that you can use to refit your original exhaust should you want to for MOT's etc etc

2. Buy a full system that replaces the existing can and pipework, doesnt involve any cutting but is more expensive and more fiddly to fit.

Most peeps go down the route of option 1, sounds nice, its a 20 minute job to cut the pipework and it will unleash a few ( but not many ) extra BHP.

thanks Soul,

so, I dont need to worry about getting a link pipe, the only way to do it is to cut the original off. So this a permanent mod? There is no way to go back to the original factory fit exhaust?

cheers

thanks fizz,

its starting to make sense now, thanks for info, I'll think I'll go for option one as you suggest, have you any exhaust that you can recommend for say £200. I think going £300 to £400 is getting abit out of hand!

What do you think of Fuel

cheers

My only advice would be to stay away from Blue Flame. Failing that have a browse through the exhaust section, here

http://forums.sv650.org/forumdisplay.php?f=137

Fuel seem to get favourable feedback as do Carbon Can Company exhausts.

If you do want to go higher end and spend a bit more have a look a cans by Remus, but I think that might be a little out of your price range.

I am very happy with the one I got from Free-Flow Systems on Ebay.

Can is £103, postage is £7 and I paid another £7 for them to powder coat it for me (matt black)

For that I got a 380mm stubby oval can and the link pipe to join it.

Didn't get a piece of pipe to allow me to reconnect my original, but I dont figure I will ever want to.....
