Default So do they ever do anything but moan?

"Green Campaigners" - have you ever heard one do anything but wail mournfully at our reckless usage of mother natures resources? Example: The gov launches a feasibility study into a tidal barrier over the severn estuary to stop this global warming menace (insert cynical smiley here) and all of a sudden all the usual suspects pop up out of the woodwork and complain about the effect it's going to have on the birds...

now don't get me wrong, i have nothing against birds, with the possible exception of seagulls and pigeons i'm really quite fond of them, but when they've discovered micro-organisms living inside the remains of the Chernobyl reactor using gamma radiation as a food source, i'm sure orville and his mates will find a way to adapt to some slightly varied tidal patterns

has anyone witnessed that most rare specimen? the "lesser spotted contented greeny" - the main difference between that and the "common greeny" is the absence of bitching about everything that's going on without really offering much in the way of constructive input...

...and breath

Personalyy although at times they appear to be a little bit cranky, I think we have a lot to thank Green campaigners for. They have raised our awareness of many issues and practices that had no concern for the future affects they might cause and the overall damage we continue to cause to our environment.

One thing I don't is this carbon foot print sounds like balls to me......where did that come from? Its seems really random on how they work out it as well. The government give every person 5 tonnes as standard....even if you don't produce that much each year.

Alot of this to me just seems another sneaking in another tax, like we don't pay enough already, this country is resposiable for 1% of carbon produced on the earth, yet we get done. I think Yanks need a serious wake up call along with China, India and every other country like that. Then back off on the taxes on us.

Road pricing is just another way of taxing, I already pay for it, more I ride the more fuel I use more tax I pay. From the state of the roads and public transport tax paid isn't spent on that any way. It spent on going to war, they just need more money to keep some minster's wet dream going.

I worked on enviromental project projects so I have some idea of what is going on.......what I really think we should spend time and effort on is alterative power generation and recycling becasue oil will run out and it will need to produce things like medcines without oil how will we do that? But by the time oil runs out I'll dead any way.

And "environmental taxes" on airlines, now I may just be some silly engineering student, but how exactly does £20 per passenger reduce the amount of fuel the jet uses?
And the hippy eejits love those...

Their moaning does them no favours. People can be talking nothing but sense, but as soon as they become sour-faced people with no hint of joy, who just moan and accuse, I stop listening. Irrespective of whether or not there is any merit in what they say, 90%+ of them need to stop coming across the way they do, if they want people to take them seriously. As it stands, they come across as modern-day puritans, which undermines their whole argument.

What issues though? Global warming? That's a joke. Even if it turned out that humans were the cause, it's totally unrealistic to think we can do anything to change our habits over night anyway.

All this drum beating does is take awareness from 'green' issues that really DO matter, and that humans are catagorically and without question responsible for (such as the destruction of wildlife habitats and the resulting reduction in bio-diversity).

Although that said, 'green' campaigners and animal rights protesters are often loathesome even when they do campaign to protect species. Sometimes the species in question aren't even indangered. Either way, the animals in question are often creatures like lions, tigers, seals etc. They are often furry, and usually have big friendly eyes... ahhhh. Forgive me if I don't respect people who direct their 'moral' crusade for animal wellfare purely to save creatures that are cute!

Not that I don't think tigers deserve protecting, they do. But consider where they sit in the food chain - right at the top. High level predators are in the grand scheme of things, the least important. If they died out, probably wouldn't have a big effect. If the lesser spotted slime bug died out however, there might be massive knock on effect along the food chain.

When was the last time you ever saw someone campaigning to save an ugly but never the less important creature?
