On my bikesafe, we got to an oblique junction. I couldn't cast a quick glance over my shoulder to see if the road was safe to join due to the riding position on the S, so I stopped. Next second ,the cop on the bike behind zoomed out narrowly missing us. Because I'd been positive up to that moment he assumed I was going to pull straight out. He could see better because of the upright position on his Beemer. So even bike cops, who are pretty much the best, can make mistakes. Whenever possible do not sit directly behind the bike in front but stagger your position. Gives you a better view and more braking distance. Lesson learnt for you, and good of Gid to act so reasonably.

Drop-off system is brilliant when done properly but just be aware that being a marker does not make anyone big, clever or special. By all means if you want to do a lot of marking overtake and get to the front but do it safely and sensibly, I've been on a few rideouts in my time where the markers have got some kind of self-importance attitude and have pulled some rather silly and dangerous manouevers (sp?) to get back to the front :toss:
Oh dear.:( Better try and behave myself then :smt083
I supose i get what i deserve ,be free to take the mick. i feel like an idiot as it is .no Mickey to be taken.
We were both fine and got to our destination.
BUT...that northern git Stretchie had buggered off without us.:smt072:smt104

Could do. But you'll run the risk of being clamped if you park there.
I'll confirm nearer the time.

Pete, I would never class you in 'the idiots' I've ridden with, even 2 up (well 3 including Larry) I've only ever been playing catch-up...I bow before you oh worthy one :salut: As Saturday will once again prove no doubt assuming the Ducati can handle the pace ;)
DMC, I was originally going to meet up with the ride at Glos/Tewks but seeing as I have a full day pass from the mrs it would be such a shame to waste it. That route sounds like fun....I take it you are on about Monmouth through to Chepstow[-o< Where do you want to meet in Worcester?

Hi Carlos. Yep, on past Monmouth, down to the start point. Would the layby just off M5 J7 be good for you, say 9am then we have plenty of time to get down there, fill up with fuel etc?
EDIT: now leaving Worcester at 8.30am if anyone else is meeting us there. Will be at the layby from about 8.15.

I think there are a lot of people out there Carlos, who would vehemently disagree with your appraisal. :( However, thanks for the compliment.:thumright: It does however appear to be all down to the SV cos I can't make the Duke work for me yet.:(

Mmmmm, was going to go down via the Fosse, but your proposed plan does look more fun. Where exactly are you going to meet and can we tag along?

I doubt it, the car park operator changed and they started getting very clamp happy. This started to annoy the manager of the resturant thats there due to the number of complaints from his customers and hence how I know this.
Where exactly are you going to meet and can we tag along?
Of course you can. The layby is just off the M5 junction 7 as you you head towards Worcester, literally a stone's throw away from the junction island itself. Sadly no burger van there.

DMC, just seen earlier messages, OK for me to meet at Layby Jnt 7 M5, see you there, looking forward to 1st rideout, but had bike restricted today, so take it eeeeeasy!!!!!
DMC, Carlos: Do you mind if I tag along too?
No worries m8, all welcome :D

Sounds reasonable. Can pop by your place if you know what time you are leaving.
I went on a short recce of the B roads (Forest of Dean) section on the weekend. Many of the roads have broken up quite a bit over the winter with gravel in places. This may have been ok if the weather had held this week, but I'm guessing the rain will wash it all over the place.
I think it best if we alter the route to stay on the bigger A roads to the west of the Wye.
Thus it will be the fast A40 between Ross and Monmouth (10 miles) and then the A466 through Tintern.
I hope this is okay with everyone.

Been sodding raining all afternoon down here, with just a touch of sleet this evening. Hope the sun makes an appearance on Saturday.

Blimey OG, you've not had that bike 5 minutes and already you've managed to lose 37 bhp and a plastic rivet!:mrgreen:

Yes.
PLEASE NOTE:
It may not be possible to safely drop a marker at the traffic lights on the A40 in Monmouth. We are turning left over the old stone Wye bridge.
If you miss it be certain to get off the A40 before the tunnel, do a clockwise circuit over the tunnel mouth and back onto the A40 heading towards Ross, you cannot turn right over the stone bridge, it's back to the roundabout and try again.
thefallenangel
05-03-09, 01:35 PM
won't be safe really to drop a marker on the mini roundabout just up the road either. but it's pretty simple to follow right. If you were worried about numbers you can always wait up in lidls car park to quick check then carry on to chepstow,

That's a good idea, we'll do this. It will also give anyone that wants to the chance to open it up a bit on the A40 and not have to be concerned about passing the "lead".
