Lozzo, you need to take me up the alps road!

Well, I'm really looking forward to it. Strangely though, can I ask that AR10 (Yeah, I know I'm planning FAR too far in advance) is further away from home? I really liked the monster miles there and back we had on the AR07!

I didnt think it was too far, anything within one tank is pretty alright as far as im concerned. But then im used to riding to brighton?

I'd like to do a 200 mile trip for AR10, burn it up with the Soho Mahoosive

the raptors the TL engine, and down the motorway it matches the SV fuel efficiency better than you'd think. Its just in queues of traffic in and around town they fail
I'd imagine the original won't be far off either

Hmm, I think we're talking at crossed purposes here. AR08 wasn't far away at all, AR07 was more like it, I felt a spirit of adventure going that far away. AR09 is on the doorstep again, so I'd like AR10 to be further afield again if possible.

Obviously it depends on the good will and help of locals in organising rides, campsites and the like.

Looks like the Aberdeen contingent will have to overnight in Glasgow and get p*ssed then. You can camp in the back garden and even use the bathroom if you wipe your feet. Sorted!

In all seriousness I think an overnight on the way down would be a very good idea otherwise it'll have to be travailing through the night.

My landlady lives there, she's got a Rangie and a Morgan with V8 *** private plates, nice lady. Her husband is a biker too.

That sounds like the posh side of Tempsford (Tempsford got split into 2 when the A1 was built).

Seggons, do you know Dave with a zx9r and his misses with a 7r? He taught me to ride.

Is it a green zx9r? If so then I've seen him but don't know him. He must be a good rider because he was doing 20 mph down my road when it was as icy as hell recently. :D

A few years ago I was seeing a lass from Larkhall just south of Glasgow. I would spend every other weekend up there, travelling by ZZR1100 all year round. It was 375 miles door to door and I'd manage that in just over 5 hours on a Friday evening with one (some days two) fuel stop(s). I'd knock off early from work and jump on the bike as soon as I was changed into leathers, usually leaving at about 4pm, and just go as fast as I could up the M1 until I got to the M6 then decide which way from there depending on weather. If it was lookng like snowing I'd go M6 because I knew the A66 would be perilous. If the sun was shining I'd always take the M1/A1/A66 route to Penrith and then up the motorway from there because it was faster.

Having also done the south of France for a long weekend 2-up on a VF400F with full camping kit for two, long distances don't bother me at all.

Right, now the venue is posted...

Google maps reckons 5h19, down the motorways. Boring & I don't want square tyres.

A little dragging & dropping of the route to avoid the A55, M56, M6 (mostly), M1 (mostly) and M25... I'm at 6h 19. A few more tweeks and I'm at 6h 21. 281miles.

Easily do-able, and I can cover probably 80% of the route without looking at a map.

EDIT: Or there's a nice looking marina just south of the place the AR is being held. Wonder if I can talk my mate into bringing his boat with me. Though getting the bike off at the other end may be a bit of a challenge. Would I win a prize for the best way to get to the AR? :D

Awesome, it's only about 360 miles from my house! And not just an entire day on the M6 as it has been every other year. And a bit of the country I've never been to. Result! Might just try and hit it in one day this year.

I know for a few people it'll be a bit far east or south but then last year was a bit far west and south for many, and the year before a bit far west and north. Short of having it in Sheffield every year not everyone can ever be totally happy, but for me the fact that it's in a whole different end of the country is a good thing. Plus, look, people are talking about coming from Aberdeen!

Dunno I've already asked but not been given a straight answer.

I'm not sure myself but having done stuff like this myself you usually look for a geographic area first, then a base site (ie suitable campsites, ideally with a backup site) and THEN you worry about routes. But for the AR the most important part is finding people who'll actually organise it, which is really a massive commitment and not something many people will take on. So, it was probably a mix of all of those factors. Becuase it's so much more than just a rideout, the organisation team are absolutely critical to everything.

We had a big map of the UK on the wall. I had a blindfold on, was spun round a few times and then stuck a pin in the map.

The other two options were Kirkwall, and the bristol channel.

I've done 500 in a day.

I think I've seen that DVD.

Please don't make harsh and stereotypical judgements about the venue for AR09. Sure there are some bits of Essex that are none too pretty but there are very many unusually attractive and unexpectedly interesting bits as well.

Some of the roads we'll be going on a great and hopefully you'll find us a warm and welcoming bunch of people.

But I suppose if you can't get past the blinkered view then best stay away (but you'll miss a really great week end ;))

So leave the miserable so and so at home then. ;)

I dont see the location matters one little bit, for alot of people its about the gathering of people together and socialising rather than the rideout route itself.

I really fail to understand what the problem is with the location... I dont think there is one. I think it will be a cracking weekend and its not one I am going to miss out on.

The best thing about these weekends, is that somebody local plans the route. If they are like we were for AR08 they'll want to show off the area and they'll take you around the best pieces of road the area has to offer.

Those of you that made assumptions, remember Assume makes an ass out of U and Me ;)

The area has been chosen simply because for AR09 that is the best place in the country to go. Simple as that.

I was under the impression the AR was more about the people attending than the venue, though being guaranteed local accents the majority of us from Her Majesty's Glorious South can understand will be a distinct advantage.

If some people don't want to come purely because it's in Essex, then I for one couldn't give a monkey's. They're the ones who'll be missing out on the wonderful Burnham bends and the excellent company the org offers.

As much as I would love to find a venue that every single person on the org said great too, it isn't going to happen. It is a fact that where ever the location was going to be, there would be a few people that would not be happy with it. It is not a case of think I don't care. It is a case of it doesn't matter.

The venue is not going to change. You will either decide the distance required to get there does not matter, the location does not matter and all that does matter is meeting everyone again for a fantastic weekend of socialising and drinking. Or you will say f'k that, I'm not going if it is there, and you miss out on a brilliant weekend. The choice as they say, is all yours.

230 miles for me

and me....?

Wayhay!!! only down the road! :-D there really is no excuse for me then now is there! ;)

Haha, that's right, NO excuse :p

I think I've seen that DVD.

LOL

The venue is not going to change. You will either decide the distance required to get there does not matter, the location does not matter and all that does matter is meeting everyone again for a fantastic weekend of socialising and drinking. Or you will say f'k that, I'm not going if it is there, and you miss out on a brilliant weekend. The choice as they say, is all yours.

Indeed. With AR07 in the Dales and AR08 in Somarrrset we figured it would be somewhere in the middle-ish! Can never please everyone, absolutely no point trying lol. I'm more than happy with the location, it's somewhere I haven't been! I love new places and the fact I'll (hopefully) be pillioning it too then even better :-D

There are some beautiful picturesque villages in Essex (and surrounding counties) and some excellent roads to ride

Exactly. Parts of Essex are very underrated.

I've never managed to get to an AR, but I've already told Mrs Wyrdness that I intend to go next year.

:smt079

Well, that's the entertainment for Saturday night taken of then !! ;)
:smt079

So leave the miserable so and so at home then. ;)

I dont see the location matters one little bit, for alot of people its about the gathering of people together and socialising rather than the rideout route itself.

.

Hes had a sense of humour failure at the mo:( I'll probably have a much better time leaving the miserable toad at home anyways..I've already been considering it, in fact I may even leave the country too...lol...see a cunning plan is unfolding, i've got months to butter him up, and make him realise that there perhaps might be another adventure on the cards....
and if we do get him down there, I think we should all kidnap him and deliver him to bear for a hug:p

. . . They're the ones who'll be missing out on the wonderful Burnham bends and the excellent company the org offers.

Yay !! We can please someone at last !!

I can categorically state that the Burnham Bends will *definitely* be a part of the route.

I'm currently working on several variations of a basic route, but they all involve the BB's.

I should bloody well hope so, what with the AR venue being literally a mere stone's throw from the start of them.

Well there is that too !!!

But to be fair (to me) they were always going to be part of the route - even when a different venue was being looked at.

It would be rude to have an AR within 50 miles that didn't take in those bends - you chose well. I might even forgive you BMW ownership because of this, you know. ;)

this venue sounds good to me... never been down that neck of the woods.. if i can get the time off (time to tell the mother-in-law how much i really love her and all that stuff) i will be there...

if northy and me can do 400 miles and the speries can make it 500 odd miles.. then surly any one in england can make it...

Do we know the actual venue yet or just the, town? Is there an alternative to camping? The less gear we jocks have to bring down the more space it leaves for the spoils of war;)

Also if we could avoid the 1st of august as I'm getting married then and a fair few of the ecosse tribe bill be invited. So it could be a quiet reception ( before anyone else says it)

That's unfortunate. It looks like the 1st August is exactly when it's going to be. As to regards the actual site. As soon as I have everything confirmed, the site will be revealed.
