Is he into getting drunk with a load of people who are good fun?
Is this a significant bithday, like an 18th, 21st or 40th?
If not then what's the big deal about birthdays - I haven't celebrated one since 2002 and even then I wasnt particularly bothered. Before that the last time I celebrated one was my 21st in 1983.

Push him to take his CBT, maybe he'll take a liking to it.

That will keep people happy, great stuff :-D Although we shall be camping as usual, love it!!!! Especially applying me eye makeup in the bike's mirrors
Messie's enthusiasm is getting herself a little ahead of schedule.
We still need to confirm a few details before releasing the proposed location. I assure you all, once everything is confirmed there will be no delay in letting you lot know.

Leave home at sunrise (about 5am in July, I think), then you'll have a great relaxed ride down with almost no traffic and be there in time to get your pick of the camping spaces.

Hey, she's got more than 1 hole, and they're all usefull!!! :-D
Being honest - when I saw where it was going to be I thought 'oh no - all that way down south...'
BUT then I thought - 'self, people in that neck of the woods came to Shrewsbury in 2006 and didn't complain'. So self is going to repay the compliment. I don't like motorways on the bike, I feel too exposed and I hate heavy fast traffic, so that rules out the M40 and the M6/M1, I will poodle down on A roads. This is subject to being around anyway, cos this year I have a larger team and I have to consider everyone else when I take hols.

I was thinking of having my CBR trailered down by a mate so I can use it to play on the Burnham bends and save the SV for the rideout.

I wouldn't mind if the event was at the Huntsman & hounds in Althorne.
It's got a pub with beer garden and a nice big area to camp.
Hmmm need a full year in advance to book :-(

Yes there are mate, there's still the old time original MoFo's knocking about ;)
Only just caught up with this, and it's in my diary. 1st Aug is a pain, but I'm sure my friend won't mind (RIP - long story).
I don't care how far, but doubt I'll camp, as don't like to carry anything on the Triumph, so hope there's a good B&B.

May be able to get more than 2 bikes in the back depending on which van I can get. If I'm really lucky I can get hold of a 7.5 tonner so could pretty much transport the whole of the south west lot!!
Then it will rain all weekend and your need to figure out how to get a 7.5 ton van out of a boggy field.

Just head West till you hit the M1, then a fast run to the A406 then round - simple :P
but then we would miss the chance of the Seaside.....

I was thinking of an early start and Ace Cafe for breakfast, followed by a fast ride to the venue (probably A1, then M25, A12, A414, or M25, M11, A414). Then you've got the rest of the day to play, without tents etc. weighing your bike down.
From the Ace, you could also go A1, then A414 most of the way there.

I don't think I'd escape alive if I planned the AR route around a lunchstop at the Ace Cafe !!
So. I'll have to disappoint you I'm afraid.
As for the seaside, I'm still debating (with myself so it's not a mass debate) whether to include Saafffend Seafront as an afternoon coffee / ice-cream stop - bearing in mind the time of year, traffic & parking could be somewhat of a problem - my thinking at the moment is that a mini rideout could be organised for Sun morning for any who wish (or who are in a fit state) to attend:- the traditional "B4" (Burnham Bacon Butty Burn-up) followed by a quick trip to the seaside for an ice-cream.
Any thoughts on the matter will be taken into consideration - not neccessarily acted upon - but definitely considered.
Funny you should mention Southend. I know someone over that way with a BBQ...

Oh come on Sally. We (I) won't be sober enough to do TWO rides! It was bad enough last year having to get home in the morning, and look what happened there.
I suggest we all have a nice lay in and each tent gets bought a sarny (per person) made from the night before's leftovers and gets told a story from the days of yore.

It's already in the planning. At the end of the day, the route only needs to be confirmed on the day. Seeing as it's months away, no need to rush it.

Ed, if you are planning a route acoss Bedfordshire to Bishops Stortford then you just have to ride the A507 between Baldock, Herts and Buntingford, Herts. That road isn't nicknamed "The Alps" by local bikers for nothing. Look it up on Google Earth, it's wonderful.
From Buntingford you simply head down the A10 for a few miles and pick up the A120 to Bishops Stortford at the second roundabout.
