The area for this years AR will be
ALTHORNE, ESSEX, EAST ANGLIA.
If anyone within that area wishes to step forward and contribute in the organisation of the event please PM me.
Yay!
Some very good roads around here that I know well, if you need some pointers

Mr Bigape Sir. Would you mind disclosing why East Anglia was chosen? (not that I'm questioning it, just curious as to the decision making process)

Mr Bigape Sir. Would you mind disclosing why East Anglia was chosen? (not that I'm questioning it, just curious as to the decision making process)
No don't tell them... it gives a air of mystery.
I don't think it could possibly get much further away from me. Well, unless it was somewhere above Edinburgh.
Just a quick google maps says that me to Norwich is almost 6hours.
Unless you're Scottish, I don't want to hear any whining about the location TYVM!
Attendance for me is dependant on work/family, not the distance or the date (which is why I haven't voted for the date).

Though I bet you had a few goes, given that we can't ride in the middle of the sea!!

We had a big map of the UK on the wall. I had a blindfold on, was spun round a few times and then stuck a pin in the map.
Sorry Mr. Ape, well & truly beaten there!

No! Grinch isnt allowed near sharp objects

+1 - REALLY looking forward to it. Multimap - 4.25 hrs non-scenic to Norwich for me...
I wouldnt assume that the location is going to be near Norwich - East Anglia goes out as far west as Bedford and as far south as Basildon - its a big area!

I would choose Bury St Edmunds or Haverhill as more of a guide as they are roughly in the middle-ish...
Go for it - I chose Norwich as it's a little further than the middle, i.e. poss maximum time.

I am sure that a similarly good (or better!) route will be sorted out by the organisers 8)

The two I know are EAR deffo. I know more on the other side of the M1 so no use really. Few decent opportunities for KD on a lot of sweeping bends, quite a few quick roads too.
Looks like we are getting plenty of ideas which is good.

Why's that too far? 194miles 5-6 hours. Sounds about right for a rideout.
It'll be OK with a group of 20 or so competant fast riders. But with a mahoosive group like the AR rideout is, I think its to far.
For the AR08 rideout we had 80 bikes, of mixed ability and experience, we you get a big group like that you end up very spread out over the roads, even simple stuff like getting fuel and food becomes complicated. You need to factor this kind of stuff in. Remember the AR rideout is a slow gentle paced ride to take in local sights and scenary and its much more of a social ride than a fast knee scraping, hooligan ride.
Even a simple fuel stop you can use up 30 - 45 minutes without even realising it.
It'll be easier IMHO to keep the distance down to 120 miles or an SV tankful.

This does all very much depend on where exactly the campsite will be. East Anglia is quite a large expanse of land taking in a few counties. I used to live in Flitwick, and my ex was on the North Norfolk coast at Mundesley - it would take me 2 hours to travel the 130 miles there. Both of us were in East Anglia.
The brewery is just up the road from me.
I'll be up for it. Maybe no the over night though as our next little one is due to arrive in the next few weeks and two kids under two would be hard to leave behind (I know, soppy git!)

Yep. Its something I tried to bear in mind milleage wise when I planned the route for this years, I made sure I took into account all the different skill levels and experience levels to.
I just think that 120 miles is about right when you have such a big group. Also it cuts down the "will I get round the route on a tankful, where do I find petrol" fretting that goes on.
So skips route may suit our needs better. A coastal route might be nice too if someone knows a good route. :)

Yup and its quite twisty in a lot of places (in a bad way) so is a nightmare for overtaking - avoid!

Whereabouts are you then? I grew up on bikes hooning the B660 before the stupid speed limits were put in place. The A507 is a sublime road if you can judge speed and distance right for overtaking. During the week there are a fair few trucks on it, but weekends seem to be ok.

There's speed limits on the B660... Cannot say I've noticed them. ;)

Well, if I can make the AR, you have to attend the NW rideout after the AR, whatever number it is (10 at least hopefully :) )
I would choose Bury St Edmunds or Haverhill as more of a guide as they are roughly in the middle-ish...
OOO,I went out with someone from Bury St. Edmunds. Great set of.... ahem assets. I'll make sure I'm near the front of the group to point her out if we go anywhere near. ;)

Who was it, might know her? I am from Bury St Edmunds albeit live near Bath now, great place .

Actually that may be true as will probably have to fill up with petrol 7 times on that journey:rolleyes:! Hope to still be there though!

Looks like the Aberdeen contingent will have to overnight in Glasgow and get p*ssed then. You can camp in the back garden and even use the bathroom if you wipe your feet. Sorted!

A mate said he was going to Bury St Edmunds, I told him I didn't know the old bugger was dead.
There's speed limits on the B660... Cannot say I've noticed them. ;)
I'm in the ickle village of Tempsford.
My landlady lives there, she's got a Rangie and a Morgan with V8 *** private plates, nice lady. Her husband is a biker too.

Funny how us blokes never forget a good set of wabs, even if that's not our favourite thing about them.
Seggons, do you know Dave with a zx9r and his misses with a 7r? He taught me to ride.
Lozzo, don't worry, I plan the corners and overtaking just fine- the first time I did it was frustrating though, as I was an inexperienced noob.

I'll do my best - all depends on a pass from SWMBO!

7 times? I dunno, i think you can get away with three stops...an SV will do 150 miles if you are not thrashing (steady with the throttle, use the engine wisely etc), so you can do three stops:
150 miles, stop, 150 miles, stop, 150 miles, stop, 150 miles, arrive and have a beer

Work and family commitments allowing, I'll be there. I might even be on my hols up there.
If your base is Bury St Edmunds then the A1088 is good. Pretty quiet and interesting roads. Doesn't seem logical to head east out of Bury, but it's a better road than the A134. Plus you get to go through Norton!
Follow the 1088 until Thetford and head to Swaffham. Then you can go west to Kings Lynn and pick up the coast road, or North and head to Hunstanton or Holkham.
Plenty of nice places to stop and get grub Wells next to the Sea, Cromer, Sheringham, Hunstanton.
The coast road will be busy-ish but if you're not in a hurry it won't be too bad. Plenty of bikers out on a Sunday use it. But so are the speed camera Police.
Avoid the A11 & A143. I don't think you've planned to go as far east as the A140, but avoid this, worst road in the East Anglia. 50mph from the A14 to Norwich, except for the Diss by pass, which is the only dual carriage way. It will be very busy, whatever time of year.:smt019

Are the Pennine Massive planning on going down en Masse?
Im game, the wifes driving the car, so may have some storage space inbetween two kids (unless I can persuade her to let the eldest on the back.) then only one kid in the car.

A bit early to say, but theres usually some sort of arranging going on nearer the time.At 08 there was the ' 4 riders if the apocalypse'
me, mel, YC, and Im Indoors....bwwwwwooooaaarrrrgghhh.
Although at the moment Im Indoors is being a spoilsport and says he don't want to go. East Anglia isn't his cup of tea...we'll see about that:twisted:

I must say, I was a bit dissapointed its not Northumberland, but its a cracking run down to Skeggy from my way so that would be over half of the journey I think.

Further to my previous post on the subject.
From what I understand this pretty much guarantees* my attendance:cool:, some of the roads mentioned I rode in my youth, be nice to revisit them, I’ll even go so far as to try moving closer after Christmas**, which will make the trip to and from the event a much easier time.
The logistics of a group of anything more than 20-30 bikes become the over riding consideration, the start assembly area size, stopping points being big enough (parking as well as ease of access), lunch stop able to do food for all within the time allowed, and also accommodating the lowest skill/speed, all must be vectored in to the route, whilst it’s nice to have faster sections these must be tempered with keeping the group together and to some sort of time schedule, a lot more to doing a good rideout of this size than just finding a couple of good roads, but then I'm sure the organiser(s) will know that.
* given my luck over the last few years I’ll say that quietly though[-o<, well you never know.
** It’s a probable, a lot of things to sort out first though.
Cheers Mark.
I just think that 120 miles is about right when you have such a big group. Also it cuts down the "will I get round the route on a tankful, where do I find petrol" fretting that goes on.
Or two tank fulls in my case :smt040
I'll be there as long as the date goes the right way.

about tank and a half for me:)
