View Full Version : Kate riding Ebony!

Kate made me proud today by actually riding Ebony, her K4 SV650S. She has been worried about the sheer size and weight of the thing, but after a few early wobbles settled herself down.
She didn't just ride it though, she rode it very well, managed to u-turn it with another 10 foot of the road spare, was excellent at her slow control and was grinning like Cheshire cat after opening her up a little. She didn't put one foot wrong the whole time.
Now all she needs to do is get a bit more practice on the road on her 125 before being ready to enter the world of SV'dom!
Well done Kate.
Here is some pics of her riding Ebony:

It'll come faster than you would have thought , it's just getting used to the bike and trying not to worry. I've always poo'd myself about getting on new or seriously questionable bikes and so far it's been good.

At low speed? Less weight on the bars so movement of shoulders doesn't affect the bike so much... grip the tank.

I was holding on for dear life so perhaps if i gripped less that would make a difference and grip the tank instead! agggh i see! :smt115

19-01-09, 02:10 PM
Yeah if you are clinging on till grim death it unsettles everything, loads the front end up and makes the steering very wierd. Feels much sweeter with a nice relaxed grip in the bars ... just enough to control the throttle.
Also when you get used to gripping the tank you get far less tired as there's no load on your arms/wrists

I have another question......
how do i deal with cambers without having to topple over!
yorkie_chris
19-01-09, 02:33 PM
It can be a bit difficult that, the bike needs to be low enough that you can confidently get your feet down. Obviously sideways on a big slope is going to be a pain. Try lean uphill, or even use the kerb for help.
Have you done test yet or no? Is the SV lowered?
Kate Moss

Test done, im restricted though and yes the sv is lowered. Can get both feet firmly on the ground with a little bend in the knee too. Just need to build up some strength in my legs but i have a plan for that!!
yorkie_chris
19-01-09, 02:40 PM
I'm sure the org could recommend some methods.
It's just the strength and getting the hang of keeping the bike upright then, like I say it's always easier to lean uphill.
Kate Moss
19-01-09, 02:42 PM
so if it cambers left, lean right?
yorkie_chris
19-01-09, 02:49 PM
Yeah so you are stood on the foot with the shortest reach to the ground... but most of the time you should be fine since it seems you have enough leg to be comfortable normally.
Kate Moss
19-01-09, 02:51 PM
cool! Just dont wanna lose it and have to drop it :( I know im thinking negativly but I am a woman - i over analyse!

Kate Moss
19-01-09, 02:52 PM
How embarrasing!!!
yorkie_chris
19-01-09, 02:57 PM
Embarrasion/hilarious depending on whether you are watching or dropping it.
Can get both feet firmly on the ground with a little bend in the knee too.
You've got longer legs than me then. I tried a lowered one and I can flat foot it with my legs stretched right out
Yep I dropped mine the afternoon after my test! In a highstreet full of people at a mini roundabout! Edit- and i had to slide myself from under it!
It it embarrasing! And i wanted to throw my helmet across the street as well! But it was fine! I didn't cry!
Don't worry about dropping it and try not to over think things!
I forgot to ask when congratulating....... do you like the SV?
