Why is the news only ever reporting about London and the south? Sigh. Should be SBBC (Southern) or LBBC (London).

Most people get today off because of the snow, I got called in because of the snow and have lost my 1 day off in 8 days. :(

Still, I hope someone is enjoying it.

is there no way you could have told them you were stranded in barnsley maybe?

And yeah, gotta love the media :) skynews have been reporting all about the disruption to the tube, brighton to london trains and motorways nearby (especially the m4) and various other major roads around the midlands. No mention of how the m62 is doing or further north on the m1.. feck em :)

Ahhh bumpoops. Went home at midday, snow was falling pretty hard by then. Got all the way to my road bar a fewslips n slides en route. Slush was terrible though.

Turned down my small road, got literally 5m from my garage, and the front end went down. Wasn't on the brake and was coasting.

Bung done its job, but scratched the clutch casing a bit too. Ahh well, but lucky.

Damn entertaining ride home. The looks I got were brilliant.

Aye it is bad, you wipe the snow open the visor (for the steaming up) then have to wipe it 2 seconds later which shuts the visor which then needs opening... :( Once did 110 miles of that, no heated gear. NOT fun. it was so bad at one point the traffic was doing 5 mph and I was a meter away from an ambulence (flurescent rear) and could only just see it :(

I went out for a walk last night, and just up the road the snow had drifted up to waist hight in places. Even the more sheltered bits had about 6 inches in a lot of places. I'll post some pics when I can locate my camera lead.

I walked my usual 1.2 mile walk down to get the train this morning, down our lane the snow was nearly over my wellies in a couple of places, but still managed to make it into work on time. I don't know what all the fuss is about.:smt019

There is no buses here and I would have to walk 4 miles to the train station, pay £8.90 for a train to nottingham, then walk another 3 miles from the train station in nottingham.

It would take so long and cost me that much its not worth while. Plus I have a meeting later in Derby so need my car at work.....easier to work from home, wait for the road to be cleared and the straight to my meeting:mrgreen:

My train back from work was cancelled yesterday so I borrowed a pool car to get home. Main roads fine, a couple of dodgy moments close to home when I was sliding down a steep hill towards a roundabout at about a 45 degree angle. Managed to straighten up but couldn't stop. Slid straight on to the roundabout, just glad there was nothing coming! I was rather glad when the car was safely parked up at home I to be honest. :batman:

I'm glad we're organised here. Between the end of Oct. 2007 and the middle of Apr. 2008, we had nearly 2 m of snow, in fact on Mar. 22 we had 24 cm fall in 4 hours, during the morning rush hour (which it wasn't).
This winter looks like we may have less snow, but it has been colder, with the temperature dropping to -36 C (-45 C with the windchill) for an number of days.

Where abouts in Fax are you? Up in Old Town the roads have been cleared pretty well, even the ones not on bus routes. I couldn't get my car or bike out though, but I live down a little track which obviously doesn't get a plough down it!

dizzyblonde
05-02-09, 12:59 PM
Highroadwell. (a couple of roads down from Norton Tower) The problem is, that although my road is gritted, as there is a lorry loading bay at the end, its where my bikes are kept. Never in a million years would i risk getting it them out...so snowed in so to speak. Our street has a single track gritted. The main road from where my street comes off is clear, but the road other side of the junction is just snow frozen solid. I find it odd as I'd have thought after gritting ours they'd go straight across to grit the other.
Like I said i have to get the bikes round four house before I can even hit a road, so theres really no point. I aren't digging everbody elses!
