Target shooting (hundreds of different disciplines) and hunting.

There is a difference between a few thousand people who have an interest in a subject and arming the nation.

I still argue that guns are designed to accurately put a projectile accurately in a particular place - and that the designed place is into a person.

Its general wisdom that a weapon in the hands of an un-trained and un-disciplined defender has a high chance of ending up in the hands of the attacker and being used on its owner.

Also new situation if people are allowed to carry guns, (and crossing over into other threads)

You see a muppet on his phone

You take his mirror off.

He catches up to you at the next set of lights

He gets out, you have words.

You swing at him, or approach him

He pulls a gun

You laugh at him/call him an **** for pulling a gun

You step forwards.

He kills you citing self defence

Also, there should be a system where you can report dangerous driving e.g. online. Then, if enough people complain about a single motorist, they are automatically referred for a motoring review as above.

For the love of God NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd never make it to work & home again

I used to think the politicians made a f*ck up of the country, but reading this thread makes me eternally grateful for what we've got.

Maybe so, but I'd rather have the choice in the matter.

Cracking the attacker on the jaw is easy enough for me, I might lose but in the past I have always had a good go. But does a woman or someone twice my age have the same option?

And this is definetly somthing to consider, my mates dad used to live and work in LA, two blocks down from where he was working someone was shot because he crashed into someone elses car, blokes got out, words were exchanged then someone got shot. But not everyone is gonna start killing each other just because a bit of road rage has got them going.

Have you met the average Sun/Daily Sport reader?

Actually I dont any more - most of them got nicked when I got burgled and after thinking about the fact that there were now a bunch of scrotes armed with my ex-possesions I never bothered replacing my collection - only have 2 pointy things now - one is more show than anything, and the other is too big/heavy to be used in a home-defence setting.

The LARP weaponry however ISNT sharp, but in poor light IS impressive and while designed to be "safe", if you know how to use it wrong can be used to hurt quite badly.

Best weapon would be to chuck the 2ft square bit of chain-mail I have made up - that would hurt :)

you do make some valid points about the level of stupidity of the population. But given the choice, I'd be carrying.

You must live in a very rough area.

I am so glad that I live in such a nice safe area on the north east borders of Brixton......

And so would a lot of other people. So then everyone would be forced to carry, just to stay on equal terms. So then a lot of people who would previously have taken a beating and end up in hospital, end up in the morgue instead.

Sounds bonkers, but 5 years back they were seriously considering making it so that in a a vehicular collision involving a cyclist and non-cyclist the fault is always with the other vehicle. Note, that's not "presumed until proven otherwise", but just automatic, even if a hundred witnesses said the cycle was at fault!
