I thought you rated the Storms on wear as well as grip LP?
I did, but I had a sneaking suspicion that actually they were not that good.... So started taking notes. I am thinking it is the big heavy VFR that is the problem, the original BT-021 had a special heavyweight carcass, same as used on blackbirds and 'Busas and were bally expensive. They only managed 4K on each rear as well. Well I actually junked the second rear at 2K cos the BT-021 were scary in the wet, so swapped them out when the front wore off.
The Storms have not been as bad as it sounds, the first rear was swapped out early at 4.5K as I was about to go on our euro trip last year, second rear did 6500, first front did 9K, and now this rear is toast at 3K miles. I wonder if the rear shock being shagged has worn it faster?

They haven't improved then, the BT020 I had on the SV was terrible i the wet.
The shock being shagged will shag your rear tyre too.

I was at the shops doing my essential camping supplies shopping:
1) 4 variety-pack size boxes of rice crispies
2) 2 tins of sausages in beans
3) A camping chair which, it turns out, is a child's camping chair
4) Cider
And I'm good to go

Bit of common sense required here. When we have a food stop and you're running low on cash seek out a cash machine in plenty of time before the leave time. I've not encountered any problems and all the petrol stations seem to take cards. Don't think there is a ATM in Tyndrum unless it's inside the Green Welly and you don't mind paying the fee.

there are atm's in oban definately, Invarary probably and the green welly possibly.
see the tyndrum (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=129746) facilities thread for details about food etc,
The friday evening, you have the option of eating en route to tyndrum, you will be getting there either through Glasgow or Stirling and callander, all of which have numerous eateries or shops to grab and go. Alternatively eat at tyndrum, in the evening its limited to the food stop (chippie) the tyndrum lodge / paddys bar or the gw snack shop. Or head back down the A82 to the drovers inn.
Another thought if you are going the stirling roue there is a nice wee hotel in Doune that does good food.
There are no eating facilities at strathfilian, so its take your own or Tyndrum for breakfast, oban for lunch and tyndrum for dinner unless you buy food in oban to take back to the camp.

I have a confession to make, I've ****ed up the saturday meal despite Kilted Ginger's good work... I had put it to the back of my mind because he'd been so organised and ahead of the game with speaking to the carvery people in Tyndrum, and with everything else I've never finished the job. Huge apologies folks, especially to Kilted Ginger, very poor of me to maybe have wasted his good work.
But it might not yet be wasted, I'm going to give them a ring tomorrow and see how they're placed for dealing with numbers on saturday night. It's not the end of the world, we'll still eat, but this is a great option. Just about to start yet another thread on this.

They certainly sell them at the Green Welly
I was out on a run with the bike club a few weeks ago and they use the same system of markers at junctions. That was fine. Just keeping up with them using 28bhp on a restricted SV was somewhat difficult, revving it off the limiter trying to keep up and uneven road surfaces didnt help. I certainly know my limits.
It'll be interesting to see what the route will be.

Good to know about the new marker system.
It is the exact same as last year's marker system :D To explain it in different words, the Leader (Careless Chucca) stops when he comes to a junction, and tells whoever happens to be next where to mark, leader carries on, marker stays where they are til I turn up. Simples! There are NO designated markers, but you might find that the various organisers and volunteers will stop to let you get away if they pass. (or, other people can also stop and let you away if they feel like it).
It's not difficult, so don't worry, I'll explain it on the day and all the volunteers know how it works, or if anyone's worried about it grab me before the ride. There's so few junctions on the route that most people won't ever be asked to mark, I think one of the sections has absolutely no junctions at all

Nope, thats the kind of thing you'll only get from Honda or..... a breaker that happens you have taken delivery of an identical bike from an insurance company write-off. It may be worth searching ebay for parts for that bike and see which power sellers have loads of parts, then phone them to see if they have the rest of bike the parts came from.
Of course Dizzy is absolutely right. If the bike hasn't left the garage which I assume it hasn't if it can't fuel, that nut still has to be in your garage somewhere, bike parts don't vaporise. Search the bike with a toothbrush poking into all the crevices, if it's not still trapped somewhere on the bike, search the garage slowly and methodically one square foot at a time from back left to front right and eventually you will find it, it has to be there somewhere!

I found the tank hat bolt under something or another last year in my shed. I ripped the place apart looking for it 6 months previously.
As Ralph says, theres lots of sellers on eaby selling assortments of job lot bolts n nuts off broken bikes.

:smt021It dropped down past the rear shock, past the little coolant tank, and all it's hoses and settled between cylinders 2&3 in a little crevace sheltered by some ghey engine bit we shook it over a bit but it dropped further underneath the engine bit and now seems to be totally innacessible without removing atleast the rear shock and cooling system. Hmm... I thought it was the same people all the time last year, Careless Chucca, Fizz, Stuartyboy.
Sometimes I've passed Pete and Lissa marking a junction whilst having a cigarette. After passing them, I've noticed on the next junction a few miles down the road - it's Pete and Lissa marking again
:D
there are two sets of them you know!
but you never see them in a room at the same time..
oohh its all very organised..

Well some of us like an excuse to make progress under the premise of "helping". Leaves the less confident riders to just concentrate on the riding and also it helps to see the same peeps at a junction. Not always possible of course to safely filter to the front as there can be a lot of ground to make up and everybody is going at a decent pace. If, however, we see a bike marking who would clearly rather not be, we'll take over and let them scoot off.

It's a possibility..unfortunately I didn't stop to have a look before I threw it into the abyss.
I'll get the number when I can get to my car.
