One of our last chit-chats by pm after my burlesque thread thingy:
i am a bit gutted, as i did not mean to get you in to trouble, and was not having a go at you, or the thread, i thought it was fine, but i was just trying to get a point out that TLW thread was ok too. it kicks off on here every few months, dont worry about it, you have done nothing wrong,

The camping field is enormous......I hope we get the turnout he deserves and judging by the threads and posts on here and on facebook, he'll look down on us next year...see record numbers of people and how much fun we are having in his honour and say something like:-
"this is ****, lets go to the pub"
Love you Hovie Baby xxx
I met Hovis on several rideouts and of course, our trip to the Nurburgring last year. My memories of him are all of a happy, fun-loving, larger-than-life guy who truly was a one of a kind.
I remember him calling me a pussy (in a nice way!) for going to bed early on our night in the Bikersloft in Belgium It was about midnight and we'd had about 10 pints of assorted strong Belgian lager. I was more than ready for bed but Hovis wanted the party to go on, legend.
Another one from that trip, we were all heading back towards the ferry and had been cruising at about 90 for a while on the motorway (one of the more sensible moments!) and an M3 went past about 120. Hovis lit Boris up and gave chase and I thought, 'feck me, here we go!' :p
Again, from that trip, standing outside Neil Leigh's house in Belgium, Hovis started stripping his top off for some reason, Neil said, 'you like taking your clothes off Hovis?' to which he replied, instantly, 'Got to give the people what they want' :D Classic.

lol just remembered when me, drew and hovis were riding back from MM1 back to the house, having those caterhams chasing us. I was still restricted at the time so had these barstewards all over me, hovis was sitting behind me keeping them off me and then the sod blasted off on boris and i got swamped , we still owned them and ended up pulling up at a cafe and then waving at them as they went past 5 mins later

To many to many memories, all of them filled with laughter and good times.
I probably have some different ones than some of you, more than likely because of Hovis' unique and individual posting style and having to talk to him about it.
I remember the first time I met him at the Tiverton Little Chef prior to departing for Never Mind the Porlocks ride, I remember being a little worried after one particular PM exchange we had had, I introduced myself and he told me who he was and we shook hands, I remember him being quiet that day and not really saying much I guess he was a bit nervous to.
Being in France and him asking for Pizza, then us telling him what he had ordered and him saying "I dont like Fish" the whole Fromage Faux Pas incident.
I remember on the Porlock weekend, him moaning quite loudly about us all being pussies after coming back from the pub at gone past midnight and going to bed when he wanted to stay up drinking.
He had me in stitches at AR08 all weekend particularly the hungover expression on his face when he got up on Sunday morning and then later on him relating to riding home and getting home and as he got off his bike the tailpack fell off of Boris. Everytime after that he'd say about "I've put my tailpack on properly this time" and grinning at me.
Trying to talk him out of firewalking the railway sleeper at AR09.
When he stood in front of Old Git's yellow curvey last weekend at the Welsh TT and he had his usual magic cheeky glint in his eye about being by a Yellow SV again.
Everytime I saw him he would start going on about the South West Surfers region being to big and that it needed splitting up. The more he drunk the more passionate he got about this subject, it took me quite a while to realise his primary objective for this conversation would be to try and wind me up.
Whenever I turned up anywhere and he was there, he was keen to get going and he always greeted me with a warm welcome, he turned up for every ride out I have organised, no matter the weather and no matter where we were going or doing. As long as it involved riding his beloved boris he was a happy man.
He had a sensitive side to. I did a charity bike ride a couple of years ago and he sent me a cheque, it wasnt a large amount, but I was touched by the little note he had written inside it, saying that he was sorry to hear about my neice that had passed away. It took me a few minutes to work out that this note from David Furness was from Hovis, who a little while ago I have given a rollocking to for posting a link that had naughty pictures of ladies embedded into it. It didnt seem to put him off donating to my charity the fact that I had told him off, he wanted to do something to help me out and he did so.
Thats my memory, he was a proper wind up merchant, but there was never any mallice to it, he just liked to have a laugh and some banter, he liked to ride his bike, he liked to have a drink, but there was a depth of character that took time to discover, but it was worth investing time to get to know the real person underneath, I'm just sad now that I didnt really know him that well compared to some of you and that I wont get the chance to continue our friendship.
I'm also sad that he wont get to reap the rewards of all the hard work he had put into getting AR10 off the ground. He really did care about how it went off and he was really working hard to make sure everybody had a great weekend again this is part again of that softer generous caring side of his character that we didnt see very often.
Of course if he was able to read this now he would be taking the p*ss and calling me a pussy :D

nice one Fizz..
why is life so cruel.. he was living the AR10.. really really living it.. and looking forward to it, i mean after the grief he gave over 09 , etc etc to take on 10.. and he done to date a bloody good job, I know me n mandy will be crying when we ride down that drive of baskerville Hall and see the fence on the left where he was stood when we saw him last..
as we rode off I gave him the finger (like Scotland) but then realised he wasnt at Scotland that time, I hope he took it in jest.. the last time I saw him , was there, at AR10 venue and I flipped him the bird.. ..
... he probably laughing about it right now, but I am sorry Dave, no offence, and I know none taken, if you give it (like you) you got to take it eh.
so how come if he from Yorkshire , he picked up the deep welsh accent , ?? if he didnt move to wales til he was older? oh dear I cant believe we wont ever meet again, or I wont wake up and log on to see who he is winding up today..

My first memory of him is getting wound up by something he posted in traditional Hovis Style. At the time it just hit too close to home for me to let it go, so, like some others, I took an instant dislike to his forum personality. I made the mistake of forgetting written words can (and will) have different meanings to the writer and whoever reads them, especially when one doesn't know the person behind the keyboard in the first place.
Unfortunately I never had the chance of meeting him in person, which, judging by everyone's reaction to this tragic event, would undoubtedly have changed my opinion about him. I just refuse to believe someone who has touched so many lives so deeply wasn't a great person at heart.
One thing is certain, this place is never going to be the same without you around. RIP Hovis.

Just this year at the AR:
While the fire was raging and someone chucked a railway sleeper across the container. Hovis decided in all his drunken wisdom that he could DEFINETLY make it accross the sleeper through the flames and out the other side. It took Myself Manxmatt, Paulthe6th and Girth about 30mins to convince him that this was a bad idea destined to end with a drunken trip to A+E.
If he wanted to do something, this is a guy who would do it. A lasting impression has been made from minimal contact. Much love breadboy, keep an eye out for us all while your up there.

As long as that is in keeping with Hovis' FAMILY'S WISHES!
We should remember that we do not have a monopoly on our grief at Hovis passing, that his family absolutely should come first. We should also remember he was a friend to many outside the ORG. Let's not make any grandiose plans until we know details of the funeral and his family's wishes on how it should be conducted, then make an appropriate gesture to our friend.
Just don't want to upset any one further at this time, not being a wet blanket.

Hi Mike, don't worry, they are very wise words indeed. There are plans being made but as all involved have been told, none will go ahead without the express permission and approval of Daves mum and family and I don;t even want to put anything to them just yet, it is too soon. It will be discussed and we will conduct ourselves at the funeral in the way that she wishes and the Cardiff Half Marathon again will only go ahead as we would like it to if it is ok with her and the family.

So Hovis made one and PM'd it to me :D First christmas card I got that year (even though it was a virtual one).
Still cant believe he really is gone

Just this year at the AR:
While the fire was raging and someone chucked a railway sleeper across the container. Hovis decided in all his drunken wisdom that he could DEFINETLY make it accross the sleeper through the flames and out the other side. It took Myself Manxmatt, Paulthe6th and Girth about 30mins to convince him that this was a bad idea destined to end with a drunken trip to A+E.
If he wanted to do something, this is a guy who would do it. A lasting impression has been made from minimal contact. Much love breadboy, keep an eye out for us all while your up there.
:D. Don't forget when myself, yourself, Hovis, Girth + one other went down the "quiet end" of the site to look at Girths' Street Triple. He started it nice and quietly even though it was 2am. Next thing Hovis' runs to his Blade and just redlines it :D. I remember me and you basically walking away rather quickly into the dark :D. I'll always remember that.

Nice to see you back mate, does anyone remember those Bieffe boots he got off ebay ? all psychadelic yellow with swirls all over em ? think plowsie got them in the end, there was only Hovis could have got away with wearing them :)
Aye I do, and that set of purple and white leathers he had at one point to. I remember sorting out his avatar for him which was a pic of him wearing them...
I suspect I've still got it somewhere I'll try and dig it out...

Dave was begining to hate "Gixers" because in the SBW there are about 5 in the group of 9 whenever we went out.
He'd just be happy you are riding and enjoying every minute of it

I can see why he did if he did.
Did he have those purple ones with his Yellow SV then as the video of him on his SV has him in Yellow leathers (I have never seen a yellow set till I saw Dave)

I dont think he wore the purple ones on the bike as they didnt fit him properly another one of hs ebay special purchases.
I think in the end we convinced him to shell out for a new set of Hein Gerrick yellow ones as thats what he really wanted.

Well, they were well worn. One of his comments to me 6 weeks ago when asking him about his boots and how worn they were was "they are like an old pair of slippers, they are very comfortable and I am used to them."
Always a legend :jocolor:

Yep but its not weird. He used to post bl**dy everywhere, whenever I had gone into a thread he had been there before me. Its just like that now.

I thought about this earlier when I was talking to Gruntygiggles on the phone. How about we get another batch made up, but Yellow T-shirts rather than white. The design he did would work just as well...
With his photo (the one with him with a can of larger) on the back?

I remember that. He was asking something like should they fit like this? It was bloody hilarious.
I hope we can dig out that thread.
When he posted that pic I think most thought 'This bloke is bloody weird'. Well he was, but in a different way than a lot of us thought

It freaks me out a bit, to be honest. But that's my problem, no one elses.
