So, the 'technology' issue rears it's head in the Argentina v Mexico game too - sort it out FIFA!

At least there's some good football going on in this game though!

just takes the pee doesnt it, that the linesman, ref and players all see its offside on the big screen and there is still nothing they can do. the world cup represents the highest footballing achievement and the world watches on as its continually undermined! surely this must be the last world cup where this is allowed to happen!

The whole thing is poo, england are poo, the ref was poo, our back four are poo poo (and they eat da poo poo) rooney should have stayed in the uk as he was worse than poo, heskey WTF? cant dishonour the word poo by mentioning him and poo in the same sentence.
No pooing width, no pooing ideas, too slow to pooing change things and to top it off when we do score, it was ruled not over the pooing line.

Get over it. We were shoite! No pride, no passion and a manager who can't even talk pigeon english at the best of times. What hope has he got of getting over his point of view?
I'd rather support my Nan's breasts with my bare hands than support English football!

It comes to something when you have to say that Heskey had a better tournament than Rooney, just for his performance in the first match.

Disappointing, very disappointing, but we should have seen the signs when we were well and truly shown up in the group stage, any team with an iota of quality would have beaten us.

I've said it before so I will again, Capello is definitely Mike Bassett, we will be playing four four ****ing two!

But lets not lay all the blame at his feet, there were 11 players on that pitch.

Owenski
28-06-10, 09:31 AM
Capello needs to swallow his italian arrogance and take on board the suggestions he gets from fans and players alike.
If his way was good no one would have complained, but as soon as people start to complain then a sucessful manager need to read the slips left in his suggestion box.
Whats the worst that could happen... he does as the media suggest and we loose, he'll be able to blame the media and be left to do what he wants in future. Although if he failed again he'd be out of a job.

And +1 - round of applause for the FA giving him an extension BEFORE the tournument. Capello's agent is a genius for sorting that one out, massive pay out time.

A terrible performance for sure, I was kind of relieved that we went out to be honest because I'm not sure my heart could take watching England clowning around again!

Surprising tactical naivity from Capello, he is a world class manager but seems too stiff necked to admit when a formation isn't working and change it.

My worry now is that 'arry's name is being mentioned to take over, just when Spurs are actually playing some decent football and in the hunt for Champions League :D

I dont think he'll take it if its offered to him, he dismissed the relvence of having an english manager (Despite Jamies column in the mail saying its what we need 100%).

Plus Redknapps not got champions league notches on his bed post yet, he'll want to see how he does in that before taking on a project as career ending as the England job.

IMHO we should have never let Sven Go.

Disagree, on the sheet of paper infront of me we've got 3 world class players on our team the rest mearly make up the numbers.

Im not joking either, it really it on a piece of paper in front of me. Its been the office debate for the morning. :)

Note the 3 world class players we agreed on are: Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney (despite his dismal performance this time round he was spectacular in Germany 4 years ago).

We argued the lampard gerrard debate for quite a while, we decided against lamps cos he's never had a decent world cup despite his obvious quality.

Then with Gerrard we felt he'd had a poor and unfortunate season with the pool and it carried into this tournument "he's past it" was our summary.

Having watched far more Spanish football in the past 10 years than the English alternative,I could not believe,(once again) the hype surroundingh England as the finals approached.

Being totally honest there is no one in the England squad that would get in to a World Eleven. Really think about it before reacting to my comment. England at their best are regrettably mundane, archaic and predicatable. Yet I sat there hoping they would play well. I like many took this German side to be in evolution, but even that was enough to leave England clueless. Very sad indeed.

But hey I am lucky that my adopted country do play a mouth watering style of football and really do have genuine contender status. VIVA ESPAÑA:

Wake up English footie fans, your league is NOT the best in the world and your team is over 40 years since it was anywhere near being the best. The possibility of it ever reaching such heights again are at best, unlikely.

L3nny
28-06-10, 04:59 PM
Don't think anyone could argue with you there. Although the same could be said for Spanish football until 2 years ago so it can change. The FA need to do something drastic though and that will never happen.

If xavi and iniesta are world class then what does that make Lamps and Gerrard? Surely not the same.

I'm a Liverpool man, but Gerrard has not played well for us this season at all. I though maybe he'd save something for the World Cup, but didn't deliver as a Captain should - not easy when everyone else is crud though.

Still, Lampard and Gerrard had many chances to prove themselves on the international scene, and never properly delivered. It's a poor exit from a World Cup after a European Championship that wasn't reached 2 years before.

Gerrard's been immense for Liverpool, but domestics mean very little until they're converted in a Euro or ever more, a World Cup.

everything else is spot on, couldnt agree more but the highlighted in red bit I have to pull you up on.
As much as I hate to say it cos as a person he's a total pr1ck but Ashley Cole would make a world eleven, there honestly isnt a better left back out there.
He's the only one who seemed to play better for his country than he did his club this year.

Pedrosa

Mr.Owenski, in your assesment you put Ashley Cole ahead of...Lahm,(who's favoured position is left back) Zambrotta and Abidal. I am left rubbing my chin and feel I must stay with my earlier comment.

Felipe,I would love to see Cristianohave a dream of a game and to score a jaw dropping goal, but with Spain to win the match with their tique-taqa football. If Portugal are to win they will have to play it mean and close down space and players like they never have before.

Could be the match of the tournament.

Owenski
29-06-10, 08:49 AM
Each to thier own, I see it as if Lahm was the worlds best then surely he'd be played in that position regardless .
Zambrotta is past it IMO he must be pushing 35now thats not young enough to compete with the likes of Messi's pace and stamina. Abidal is French... need I say more?
Trust me I HATE ashley cole, so its hard enough for me to see him as good at anything but I cant stop myself from thinking there is no-one better in that postition.
IMO its because of him that G Johnson looked so so poor, teams looked which side to attack and choose GJ as the weaker option. Hence why he got creamed through the whole tournument.

IMO we have a very decent defense line that works when it has to. The game against Brazil was proof of that. It's the defense to mid-field transition we're having problems with, and it's only Coentrão who's being able to solve them by storming up the left side and showing up where nobody expects him to be.
If Mr. Queiroz is able to solve that thing and find someone to keep the game going Ronaldo's way, I believe we have a chance, but it'll be one hell of a fight!

Yep! Saved the first one on the line and then did what probably 95% of footballers would do in those circumstances. Cheating? Probably, but it was the last action of the game (save for the penalty that followed) and he did what he had to do to keep his country in the tournament. I reckon it was instinctive rather than a conscious decision to cheat as there was no time to think about it.

I feel sorry for Gyan who missed the resulting penalty but it was a bad one - must hit the target. But what huge cajones to step up and take the first penalty in the shoot out.

I'll be cheering for Germany this afternoon.

The Germans are consistently awesome, how many other teams have scored 4 goals in 3 games in a world cup.

Surely they have to be the favourites by miles.

Just goes to show that picking players that are best suited to the style of play rather than filling a team with big names is the way to world cup success .

Yeh exactly. I don't even know if it really is cheating as such. I mean it's basically a foul he committed and got sent off for it. You could just count every foul as cheating, which would make every player a cheat. Just some cheats are more valuable than others! Fair do's to him, and you're right, virtually anyone would do the same.

Germany wiped the floor with the Argies. What a game that was. The Germany Spain semi is an interesting rematch of Euro 2008 final. I hope Uruguay make it to the final. Would be lame to see another all European final in a World Cup, just doesn't seem right.

Now that is what Pele meant when he called football,"the beautiful game." A delight to watch and both teams contributed greatly to the spectacle. A shame either had to lose to be honest.

But what did I care? In a packed bar, second line Puerto Banus tables crowded out at the entrance also. There I was with my son and a group of his friends, singing chanting, swearing, cursing, cheering and clapping. The roof lifted off the place when Puyol blasted that header home,(him and his 1970's porn star hairdo)

The best experience I have ever enjoyed watching a football match, completely and utterly mind blowing.

And yep, a touch of a hangover this morn!

Viva España!

P.s. Any chance the powers that be at the f.A. go out and buy dvd's of last night's match and hand it to every English squad player and Fabio. That is what football should be, not that prehistoric huff and puff that unfortunately the English fans have to suffer.
