You're a user G ;)

Seriously i would like to do wales but the cafe is better at long itch, presuming we'd meet there?

Back up route?

I'd still rather ride north wales if the weather is good lol... I'm sick of riding that loop around Melton and Market Harborough ;) but I'll do it if the weather is b ad for some company

The Long Itch is fecking miles in the wrong direction for me though (bloody southerners) so I'll meet around market harborough or melton if that end up being the preferred choice.

This is probably the route that Speirs took you on. It's pretty good but a bit short.

It's a nice ride to Ruthin, leading to more nice roads and a good day out... it's a **** ride to Long Itch (for me anyway) to then just turn around to come back to some ok roads which I ride all the time.

I'm willing to go a bit further for something that's worth it, I don't want to go miles out of my way just to come back and ride my local roads.

Ignore the feckin' weather forecast until you get out of your pit on Saturday morning and look out of the windows.

We are such a comparatively small island that the weather forecasters don't have a clue more than 12 hours in advance. They are looking at something that's happening over the Atlantic or the North Sea and it completely changes once it hits land. I know one of the Scottish BBC forecasters and she admitted that in Central Scotland because there is only 50 miles between the Forth and Clyde Estuaries (essentially east to west coast) that more than 4 hours in advance they actually don't have a clue. It's all guesswork. That's why one website can say rain, whilst the other says sunshine, a different person made a different guess.

Look out of the window in the morning, then I've found that Rain Today website someone posted on here is really useful, then decide if you are going to do the rideout.

Have we figured out whose leading this ride yet? I can try as i know most of the roads but my memory will be a bit hazy...

I'll make routes to go on my top yoke as well mind.

Specialone
19-05-11, 04:38 PM
The only difficult bit IMO is from quatt cafe to Newtown, everything else is straight forward and sign posted.
I won't be going north from crossgates tbh, it's 90 mins from crossgates to mine, if I go to Bala etc it will be a slog to get home from there.

Are we still doing Wales or MH, MM ?

Binky
19-05-11, 04:53 PM
I may be forced into MH/MM as i'm not sure the mechanic will be able to fit my chain and sprockets in time tomorrow for me to get home to Sutton...

robh539
19-05-11, 05:01 PM
Hey not looked at route, but I assume your going quatt a458 to morville then left to craven arms. Have a great ride guys. i love them roads to newtown, Just keep ya eyes peeled on that leg ;)

Mr Speirs
19-05-11, 05:26 PM
If I am honest I would prefer to do MH loop rather than Wales. Money is tight for me this month and I am now working the night before so won't get to bed early enough to warrant a day trip to wales.

Specialone
19-05-11, 05:33 PM
Well that settles it then ?
I ain't fussed tbh, it will mean I'll do similar miles so no problem for me.

If youre defo coming chris, drop me a text Saturday morning about 8.30-9 to remind me about the pegs and indys and I'll bring them with me.

MH = Market Harbourgh, the route that Mike put up a few posts ago. We will likely be starting at the Long Itch Diner

I'm pretty bored of riding around the MH/MM area every damn weekend, so if the weather is going to be reasonable I'll still be heading to Wales. I may tag along if the forecast turns really bad in Wales but good in MM.

Thats similar times to what we done the other week though Chris and we got it all done :)
I know its further for me and maybe some others but i dont mind a meet place closer to the start of the 'loop' if its easier, dont really wanna be picking people up all along the route.
That said if anyone is unsure of how to get over there i can still meet at long itch if needs be but just wont stop for food.

Shall we arrange a new start point then?

Ps i think G is gay as well for not coming out with us, but ill retract that if i can ride it too ;)

Lol... I think you pair are gay Melton pie lovers for riding the same bloody roads week after week... Where your sense if adventure, it gets boring.

And no ones riding my bike :P try one in a shop ;)

Lol, I do like a good pie :)

In my defence mate, this will only be my 2nd time of riding those roads so hardly every week !!

Weather is gonna turn over Wales tomorrow afternoon so that puts me off tbh, I did crossgates over 10 times last year so rode that more than anywhere else, so this is a change for me.

The BP lot are meeting late ain't they ? I wouldn't get back until 8pm if i went there.

It's reasonably late yeah, the weather doesn't look to bad, but then two day ago the whole country was covered in sun for two weeks so I'll keep an eye onbit today... I don't want to ride in wind and rain for 12hr in Wales if it's going to be nice here that's for sure.

Ok I'm leading then. Mike had a look at the route, basically what I reckon we are going to do with some slight alterations.
Unfortunately there's not much in the way of fry up places thats not in town centre at MH that I can think of.
And I feel Long Itch is a bit too far out of the way, but saying that if everyone is willing to travel to meet at Long Itch it sorta makes the route long enough to put Rutland Water as a Lunch Stop.
We can stop briefly at the MH McD's/Petrol Station for anyone wishing to meet us en route who didn't fancy riding to Long Itch.
My only concern with the Long Itch option is if there is anyone meeting us at MH then we won't be there until around 12ish unless we put the leaving time back from Long Itch.

So options people:

A. Long Itch Diner, Fry Up
B. Market Harborough, McD's
C Long Itch Diner then onto Market Harborough McDs to pick up people meeting there (we won't be stopping long at all, 5 mins to say hello and then out)

If everyone is ok meeting at Long Itch then we shall be aiming to leave at 11.
If we are all meeting at MH we shall be aiming to leave at 11.

If we are meeting at Long Itch but end up meeting a few people en route at MH does anybody meeting at Long Itch have any objections to leaving earlier to give the MH guys a longer day? Say aiming to leave at 10.

We shall be ending the ride at Market Harborough.

Any thoughts?

My vote is the McDs at MH. Although I would prefer the fry up its just a tad out of the way for me.

there is a layby about 100 yards from maccie d's with a decent cob van in if that appeals to anyone??

I guess I'll ride down to MH with Mikey

I don't mind meeting at McD's but am happy to go earlier to hunt down and devour a proper big brekkie with the hardcore carnivores

Sounds like a good alternative to McD's breakfast.

Where the hell is the long itch diner? Google is saying around 30 miles from MH. Is that the right place, near Southam?

If so i'll probably just meet you guys at the MH meet point...

Mr Speirs
20-05-11, 11:40 AM
Yeah that's the place.
Ok so theres Binky, Mike, Rusty, David all meeting at MH

I guess the only sensible thing to do is meet at MH then?
That ok with you Phil?
Burger van down the road for a greasy breakfast?

Binky

So where is this burger van exactly? Could someone Google Map us to the point please?

When that's done i'll see you guys in that lay-by for about 10:30 for an 11:00 leave then. Lovely stuff.

If you do a street view you will see a burger van...for the first time ;)

I love how the googlemobile actually went into the lay-by haha.

That's never been there when I've been past in the week.

Oi! Your supposed to be on my side and besides your not even nor ever have been a madlander!!! This means you have to be nice to me.

Of course I didn't buy any beer. I was as tight as a ducks a*se last year while a student. You guys bought all my beer remember :)

I know you're only riding all that way so you don't have to buy me a beer at Jo and Jambo's wedding celebration tomorrow night.

But if you meet at Maccy D's can you save me the toy from your happy meal as you're still too young to be allowed grown up food aren't you?

I'm on a diet... ;) (todays huge lunch was a blip)

I'm keeping an eye on the weather at the moment... and Wales isn't looking promising. I'm not doing 12hrs on the bike in the rain, I'd sooner wait for a sunny day for a day out like that.
