Forecast is heavy showers. Personally I'm not bothering Hovi5 as there seems little interest now. Off on bike to do some other things for a few hours.

With regard to the changing the title of this thread to include "WHEN IS THIS HAPPENING??" (alright mate, no need to shout!) I'm not sure who that question is directed at as I made my position clear on Wednesday 27th, as promised.

Also, according to the "posting rideout plans" sticky, this thread would / should become a sticky when a firm date is set. Which it never has.

so is it today or not? :smt102 i will have to leave by 9.30
so if anyone can give a yeh or nah asap. the intrest seemed to die out over the last few days :cry:with only a few posts bycheekylemon carlos ME & a few others so perhaps it is cancelled i relise the weather is too blame & i am not having a go at anyone but i think that it is probally a bit late to go now :?

ps. i did not change the title

1. You can edit that to a date yourself. The guidelines also state to put a date on it when one is known. Never happened.
2. Its directed at everyone who made, changed, ummmed and ahhd about when this was going to happen as some folks have to make plans. In other words to prompt for a date! Accept you said you wernt going. However there still seemed some idea that this might run.
3. I for one forgot to make it sticky. As it seems did Fizz and Grinch. BUT you for one never asked

AND AS FOR THE CAPS....its to try and get a decision as folks are asking who may travel some way and everyone else seems to have sloped off.

I'm not picking this one up. I dont know the route and so am not going to lead a load of riders around a route Ive no knowledge of.

In future its best these things are cancelled unless someone definitely steps in quickly to take over, in my opinion. Then folks wont be left hanging on.

So is this now next week? If so Xan edit the title and it will be made a sticky

Don't blame you mate.

For the record, I would have made it today if it was going ahead (are you listening Anna  :D ), but as there is little/no interest I can't justify coming down today only to find the rideout officially goes ahead next week - funds don't stretch that far with bills, etc. etc oh, and a pregnant wife who doesn't really want me to go anyway

I can see why people don't want to go if its going to pi** down all day, lets hope we can arrange something soon.

Right, I'll go back to bed then! I figured it wasn't going ahead as I didn't get the usual "ding dong" at the door, with a certain someone all suited and booted and ready to go standing at my door!

Lets see what happens for next weekend then. New thread? :?

I must apologise guys, but I've been excommunicado this week due to making the biggest mistake of my broadband life (changing from btinternet to talktalk  )

I would have met up at Avebury, but wasn't sure if it was still on. Still managed to take my wife out for her first pillion ride since her disc op. Only downside was us getting well and truly caught out in a cloudburst in Swindon at lunchtime  Still, she laughed it off, even though she knew I could hardly make out the roads while filtering, let alone the cars!!

Rich,

Be fair,

1. A definite date was never set, only suggested. That's why I didn't change the title of the thread.

3. On your "posting rideout plans" sticky there is absolutely no suggestion that people have to ask to have a rideout made a sticky. I assumed that one of the 3 moderators would do this once a definite date was set.

My intention was to make a weather based decision on a Wednesday, then meet at the Roo on Thursday to finalize route and lead/rear marker etc. So far Beenz had agreed to be the lead on this. I don't have the experience (or a map holder) to do it myself.

I'm happy to send the autoroute .axe file to anyone who wants it, I'm going to step down from any organisation on this one.

Hi,

I may well make it, but again it depends on the weather. I've got no axe to grind mate, the rideout has attracted more interest than expected and given that I've only had my license for 4 months and have only been on one rideout myself I'm not sure I'm the one to lead it.

Beenz, are you still happy to lead this one?

No problem here Alex., if the weather turns really pants, I guess I'll get wet  Alex it would be good if you could make it though, wet weather riding is good to learn anyway. So many of us only ride in the dry such that when you get cought in a downpour we're all at sea so to speak.

So Saturday it is then, Can I suggest meeting at Morissons at Cribbs Causway as everyone (well me anyway  ) knows where to find it. I'll even say at 11:00 to say a time.

You could try the store finder or use www.streetmap.co.uk and use the post code BS10 7UD.

That should help any problems we can meet at somwhere you know and catch up with everyone else at Morrisons. Or pick a place not too far away and I'll find it.

Bit of a warning regarding Cribbs...

VB, Vix and I headed out there on Saturday afternoon only to find the most heavy congestion I have seen outside of London. Literally miles of tail to bumper cagers in what seemed to be all directions to and from the Mall (including Morrisons). It was one hell of a filtering job.

The Sainsbury's I orginally suggested is easy to find.

Head into Bristol on M32, leave at J3, 1st exit at roundabout, 2nd exit at next roundabout, over the flyover 2nd exit roundabout, 2nd exit at roundabout.

...or to put it in simpler terms, get off M32 at J3, turn left at roundabout, keep going straight until you get to Sainsburys. :)
Here's a Map (http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=51.45623~-2.566656&style=h&lvl=13&scene=4249009&rtp=pos.skb9xvgskdjm_M32%20J3~pos.sk6jbfgsm0q5_Sai nsburys&sp=Point.skb9xvgskdjm_M32%20J3___~Point.sk6jbfgsm0 q5_Sainsburys___)

There are cash points, fuel, toilets, and a cafe etc, and it's the right side of town.

Anyway, Beenz is now the daddy. He get's the final say.

Here's a suggestion for a ride, I've tried to give it a theme and called it "Tour of the Ancients"

The route starts and ends at the Castle Court Sainsbury's in Brislington, Bristol
http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shoppingandservices/storelocator/store.htm?id=795
There's food, fuel, loos and cashpoints etc, and strangely there's a mock castle in the car park which sets the scene for later on...

First point of interest is a white chalk horse site at Cherwell, followed by the stone circle at Avebury, then on to Bratton for another white horse site (biggest and oldest I think). Next up is Glastonbury Tor then heading back to Bristol via Cheddar Gorge.

125 miles total

Here's a pdf map of the route
http://www.box.net/public/a6rjio4mek

Half of these places I've never seen myself so I fancy doing it, any one else up for it? If there's enough interest we can look to set a date.

Start 10:30?

At 10:30 at Sainsbury's.

Sounds perfect to me, gives us plenty of time to have a back-road bimble down to Bristol (though no doubt Cheekylemon will still be in bed when I bang on his door and that'll end in the usual M5 wacky races  ).

Is there still going to be a meet at Cribbs Morrisons? If so what time? Does 9:45am for 10:00am leave sound ok??? :? Obviously if everyone is going straight to Sainsbury's then we'll meet there instead.

Can I suggest for the meeting at Sainsburys that riders park up at the far end of the car park by the Black Castle pub.

Useful information;

- There is a cashpoint at the petrol station by the air & water pumps.
- There are two cashpoints in the supermarket lobby, on the left just past the travel agent.
- The flyover between M32 J3 and Sainsburys has a 50 limit and speed cameras at it's mid point in both directions.
- The road through Cheddar Gorge is very twisty, and due to the cliffs some of the corners are blind. I recommend that you leave extra extra extra distance between you and the rider in front. As well as people, goats, horses and slow moving vehicles being a possiblity around each bend, you might also encounter oncoming traffic on your side of the road.

A lunch stop is planned at Cheddar Here. (http://www.coxsmill.eclipse.co.uk/contact-coxs-mill-cheddar-gorge.htm)

Finally, as per the Porlock rideout....

Please complete below and bring along, no need to hand it to anyone just keep it where it can be easily found. (because you have, inverse murphys law states we won't need it).

May I also add that the recent rain may have washed some gravel into the road, this will normally sit in the middle of the lane and can be fun when apexing a bend.

Further, those bushes may look welcoming, but trust me there not

is cribs signposted off m4??

Sure.

Its easy to get to off M5 junction 17.

On the Img below, it's somewhere in the locality of the pink circle, but if you come off M5 J17 southbound and hang a left at the roundabout at the bottom of the slip road, just follow the traffic for a couple of hundred yards and then turn left at the next island. You can't miss it really.

We'll be in the parking bit behind the petrol station approx 9;30 to 9;45 so we can set off to Sainsburys at 10;00 to be there for 10;30. Look for the yellow SVS and black Bandit.

See you there.

Yeah just be careful, we don't want to have to announce that Hovis brown bread.

(Sorry, joke in bad taste but couldn't resist, especially when there's all this talk about Cheddar, I could get in a pickle here, but I'm sure you'll lettuce off, being the apple of your Mom's eye. What I mean is don't ploughman, all ham fisted like).

Roll call!

Who's going?

So far I gather:
xan173 and Mrs xan173 (the Daddy and Mrs Daddy of the ride  ),
Squirrel if he can stay away from that bush,
possibly the Doc,
Maybe mac99,
carlos,
glade at Avebury (need to sort out a time to meet)
as allways Mogs, Jabba, Valleyboy (and the rest of the bods from 'over the bridge') are welcome,
Anna if we meet here on the way to somwhere else completely different, and err is just checking the map for somewhere 'near by'.
and not to loaf around and forget the nearly silent and extremely reserved King5mill err... Mr Cru5ty... errr.. sorry Hovi5

The start is Sainsbury's at 10:30 so who's meeting there?

For those who are meeting at Morrissons, leave enough time to get to the above. See you there :)
