Thats fine by me but don't expect anyone else until at least 9:30. We will be leaving Cribbs at 10 to meet everyone else at Sainsburys at 10:30
i would rather be there & have to wait . then be late & miss you
that if it takes my 1 hour it may be more, i can always wait 4 you all to turn up
where in cribbs??
So Saturday it is then, Can I suggest meeting at Morissons at Cribbs Causway as everyone (well me anyway ) knows where to find it. I'll even say at 11:00 to say a time.
yes yes yes yes yes yes
cribbs would be great for me, dont know where it is though, i think its sign posted off m4 but hopfully i wont be on my own
Morrisons petrol station, behind it near the car wash is the usual place.

Otherwise will see you there. Its probably best to park in the pub car park at avebury, wouldnt be suprised if there were a few other bikes there too.
will have the mrs with me unless she's too hung over
:smt102 is it going to rain tomorow :smt102

Not a bad idea. Besides, Morrisons probably has a cafe you can grab a take out coffee from while you wait.
See you tomorrow.

The forecast is fine. I plan to turn up at Sainsbury's.
hovi5, I suggest you take a camera because the places we will be
stopping at are quite picturesque. Just make sure it doesn't fall
out while on the move (I think squirrel_hunter had this experience recently).

Cute
No worries getting there early is a good idea if you've not been there before gives you more time to get lost. I'm pretty sure there is a cafe there if you want to grab a little brekie.

Quite right prof, camera is a good idea. But then so is a rucksack whos zip works!
i havnt been this excited since xmas 1985 :santa: \:D/
As there are some newbies with us here is a list of things to take, I know its pretty obvious but just in case:
- take a map of the area, at the very least print out the one that xan173 kindly made and posted earlier on this thread, if you look in this thread you will find it. Keep it in a clear plastic bag, it may get wet if it decides to rain.
- a fully charged mobile phone if you have one, oh and that works
- an 'in case of emergancy contact detals' piece of paper to keep with you. That way we know who to send the ransom note to
- if you don't want to risk getting wet, something waterproof is a good idea and I don't mean a brolley or a shower cap.
- a camera if you want, with spare batteries if you have them, bring a plastic bag with you to keep it dry. And bring some film if you are a luddite
- at least enough cash to fill up with petrol, some places do not take cash cards under a certain amount.
- enough money to buy some food, say a spare 15 quid should be plenty for a pie and a pint. It's not fun watching everyone eat when your still hungry
- most importantly, bring a good sense of humour. I have not been able to do this route so we may deviate a tad. And do go to the loo before we start off
Remember if you want me to stop, just overtake me and ask.
It's not a race but whoever is last is a sissy
I hope that the weather is kind to us and that we all enjoy a really good rideout.
If I'm awake early, I'll join you at Cribbs, if not I'll be at Sainsbury's
See yall tomorrow.

I'm a definite no. Liz and I got back from Ireland this morning, I had a rest and rode home and got in 1/2 hr ago. I'm knackered...
Only thing I would add to Beenz list, is have a full tank of petrol at the start of the rideout, if everybody starts with a full tank it makes life much easier.
Otherwise a great list of stuff IMHO.
Remember if you want me to stop, just overtake me and ask.

Was great to meet a few people!
Me and amy both had a great time, though i think until i've got a few more pillion miles under my belt I'll leave her behind on rideouts for a bit. Need to sort out her trousers too
Had a nice run back from Shepton Mallet through Frome, Trowbridge Devizes and Avebury. Quite funny actually, I didn't have a clue where we were on the journey, then we stopped for lunch at a pub right next to our friend's house!!!
Squirrel - will look out for you if we ever pop up to avebury!

Sounds like a good day was had. My trip back from Scotland became a bit drawn out, so I'm a bit peeved at missing this
So..........................Photos, photos, we want photos!
Can't be bothered to do the full write up, suffice to say it was a good ride on some good roads, with only a few minor technical problems (tm anna). The weather stayed nice as well.
Didn't take many pictures either, but here's one of the Red Lion at Avebury.

I only took a couple of pics but will upload and post them tomorrow.
By the way, we got back at 8:20 with a total of 312 miles. Had a great day and big thanks to all as I believe everyone played a leading role at some point today. Was great to meet a few more of the surfers and am looking forward to the next rideout.

Home safe and sound (ish). Got back a while ago but just got home after drinking lots of beer round the neighbours (Triumph Daytona bloke) who kindly got us out of Devizes, thanks mate.
A good rideout, thanks to everyone who joined in. Good to finally meet Carlos and Cheelylemon from the Midlands and of course Hovi5 who rides very well indeed for a three week old licence. Well done mate.
Good that Professor came along as well and xan173 and Mrs were good as well at organising the food and drink lists at the pub.

The Westbury white horse is the oldest of the Wiltshire horses. It is also one of the best situated, being high on a very steep slope and overlooking a panoramic view. It is on Westbury Hill, on the edge of the Bratton Downs, immediately below the Iron Age hillfort called Bratton Camp, north-east of Westbury and near to the villages of Bratton and Edington. There is a car park with a viewing point on the B3098 just east of Westbury, and a car park above the horse on Westbury Hill. Note that the lanes up onto the hill are steep and narrow, and are used by horse riders.
There has been a white horse on the site for at least three hundred years or so. The earliest mention of it is in "Further Observations on the White Horse and other Antiquities in Berkshire" by the Reverend Wise, published in 1742. The white horse of the title is the Uffington horse, but the author also refers to the Westbury horse. He relates that he was told by local people that it had first been cut in the memory of persons still living or who had recently died, which suggests a date in the late sixteen hundreds. That horse was very different in design to the present one, and is perhaps Saxon or earlier in appearance. However, it could well have been a deliberate "mock-Saxon" pseudo-antique folly; there are no earlier references to a horse on the site, even by authors who mention the Uffington horse.
In 1778, a Mr. George Gee, who was steward to Lord Abingdon, had the horse re-cut to a design nearer to its present day appearance. He apparently felt that the older version was not a sufficiently good representation of a horse. One cannot help but wonder if the name G Gee had made him overly sensitive about horses.
A century later the horse had become somewhat misshapen, and in 1873 it was restored according to the directions of a committee appointed for the purpose, and edging stones were added to help hold the chalk in place. The shape of the present horse dates from this restoration. In the early twentieth century, concrete was added to hold the edging stones in place. In the late nineteen-fifties, it was decided that it would considerably reduce the maintenance costs if the horse were covered in concrete then painted white. The concreting was repeated in 1995. Given that the horse is now concrete, it is perhaps ironic that the marvellous panoramic view from the site of the horse is spoilt only by being bisected by the massive chimney of the local cement works.

It is really amazing that they still haven't fallen off. I stuck them on 2 years ago
thinking that they would be blown away in a couple of days.
