Steady ;-)

Not ridden in a while so I'm going to be chilling out and enjoying it.

Ha! Gixers give you the voices mate... I'll give it 35 miles before the sound of "race me, race me" and "Go on you can take 'im" starts to appear in your head....

.

I used to get that on my GS 125....

Sadly it was usually as I was approaching some old codger on a Puch maxi gong up hill, and even then it was a gamble who would win.

Nowadays I'm much more sensible, as you will all witness on Sunday (just don't ask Spider).

Now, not one to put a dampner on things, butyour talk of racing shinanigans, isnt going to bode well for any novice members that might be coming along. Is it going to be yet another 2 group scenario? I thought the idea of these rides is to all meet up and pootle around the coutryside together? If a high speed scratch is waht you want, then why come to a SV rideout??

Viney, take a chill pill mate.....

We were discussing Lee, not the ride out. This will be my first group ride of the year so I'm definitely not going to blitzing my way across the Sussex countryside....

Every rideout we've ever done as a group has been fine. If people want to goa bit quicker they can and then they just slow down and wait for others to catch up. It's never been an issue in the past and we've never lost anyone yet.

I might be able to make this as i can really do with getting out. But i will be coming up from Portsmouth. Need to loosen off a bit, and get out of the house :D.

I'll be taking it slow though as i haven't ridden much since February.

sarah
12-04-07, 08:08 AM
seeing as it looks like there might be quite a few of us it would seem sensible to use the marker system (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=86128) used on other rideouts.

any volunteers for leader and tailender?

Bluesteel

Yep, it should be made illegal. Oh well. I'll still be there. See how dedicated I am to you lot.

Dan, do you find it hard when you get up that early? :D

Sarah, I am willing to help, but don't think I will be much help. Not ridden these roads before, but I do have a delightful tank bag with map viewer...

sarah

viney has suggested having a slightly more specific meeting point so that it is easier for us all to find eachother:

"Id suggest parking the bikes in the overspill area then meeting by the table to the left of Rykers up on the grassy bank"

see you all there :D

Hi Kelly,

If you're coming up from Portsmouth then you can meet up with us in Guildford and we'll go to Boxhill together.

Just ride at your own pace, I'll be taking it easy to.

Sarah, I think the Marker system is a great idea i don't mind marking :D and it should be in place anyway imho :)

I'm a Box Hill virgin, I think I know how to get there, I can see the slip road from Google maps anyway... ;)

I usually find places of interest by

a) spotting a large rainbow flag,
b) hearing Kylie music blaring from 3 streets away or,
c) by the large number of orange skinned, sleeveless-topped men loitering around.

Obviously sv_dan will take care of 'c', but if you could arrange a billowing flag/kite and a nice bit of 'I'm spinning around' that would be fabulous...:smt082

I have no problems running as "Tail End Charlie" for some of the route, as long as I can join in with the fun at some point. I'll have to get my maps out and commit the route to memory (which at my age isn't easy :)).

"Overspill" carpark I can do, Rykers I know, but "the table to the left on the grassy bank" ?? You've got me there Sarah, and I can't find it as a PoI on my GPS either :p

To the left of Rykers as looked at from the carpark ?

I'll look for Viney, he's easily spotted.

More pages than the mega thread at this rate :D

There will be a large group of us all at different skill and confidence levels and so everyone will no doubt have to compromise a bit. The rideout will be kept at a general pace with riders moving around the pack. Generally the faster riders migrate to the front and the rest around the middle.

If we are having a large group as it appears to be, then the marker system would be better and will brief everyone on the day on those not sure on what happens.

*OFFICIAL BIT*
Just to clear things up, any reckless riding, racing, taunting, spitting chewing gum will result in getting thrown off the rideout.
*/OFFICIAL BIT*

Fingers crossed it will be a warm and sunny day and good paced rideout is what we want, we have alot of new people with us along with alot that have not ridden in a while or in a group for a bit so I think a careful slower rideout is for the best but it shouldnt take long to work out a good pace.

Oh and yer my front calipers are b0rked, one out of 4 pistons are working on each caliper, trying to get it sorted for the rideout but no promises.

Steal their keys! Let down their tyres!

Ask nicely and hope? I don't think anyone would be reckless but hopefully a nice comment and bit of advice would see them tone down their riding and still ride with us.

As some of you`s know my bestest friend in the whole wide world Emma got 2 free tickets (hospitality etc) for Brands Hatch BSB, which was fantastic by the way, well she`s gone and managed to get her name pulled out of the hat again for Thruxton BSB so i`m gonna go. It`s not that i don`t luv you guys but you can poke the ride out i`m off to the Eddie Stobart hospitality tent for another free beer \\:D/ :smt110 :smt110

Just to help out with those that don't seem to familiar with Box Hill I go there most Sundays so I hope this helps, don't mean to teach those who know how suck eggs! :D
Re the meeting place, the overspill car park is at the bottom on the right of the main car park you enter from the road. WATCH OUT for the security post in the middle of the entrance!! If you walk back from the overspill car park up the main car park towards Rykers the three tables on the grassy bank to the left of the cafe are obvious.

Hope this helps.

I'm a newbie to this size of group ride only ridden with groups of four before but really looking forward to this one. :smt045

That was THE BEST rideout ever. Awesome turnout, awesome route and a great brekkie. Was good to see Rictus up and about (albeit on one of those things!:) ) and he still managed to overtake me, dammnit!

Big thanks to Sarah for organising the route. And thanks to JonToms for the spirited ride home. Managed a stonking wheelie past Rackstraw's but no-one was there to see it.:(

Time for sleep now.:p

I dont know, The guildford Massive organise a rideout and someone form SELKent has to lead part of it!! I ask ya.

Well, i rode with a few people that i havent done before, and theres always a little of the unknown, but all went without a hitch, no breakdowns, no bikes falling to bits, a bit of Roadkill (Supervox) no having to go back to look for remotes and the sun shone!! Blimey, sounds dull in comparrsion to a Selkent ride.

Still had fun. Thanks to Sarah for the route (Just write the road numbers on the map next time ;)) Im off to bed..i mean 8AM, means early finish ;)

Higlight of the day....Rictus Hooning past all of us on his scooter! Nothing stops that man!!!!

I hope to see some of you at the next Selkent ride!

Well...I think it was a good ride...the recovery/reconnaissance yaris didn't have to do too much more than action photos!
Rictus made for the funniest bits...I had to scrabble for the camera as he turned up to the breakfast stop in 3rd place, missed the whole middle part of the ride but still managed to be last to leave the pub!!! :D

Posted up loads of photos now.

It was great, nice to see Mark out on his scooter and overtaking everyone.

Pub was cool afterwards when everyone eventually found it.

OK back from bath now, My thanks to all thoughs that helped me today, bit more than I'd expect to do, but then my own fault as I'd thought you were having breakfast at rykers, would have got down to the cafe sooner, but some slow raptor rider was all over the place in front of me ;) , nice of everyone to ride at my pace I thought, had to sit for a while in the car park as head was spinning a bit once I'd stopped concentrating, had 80 mph out of that thing, I refuse to allow fear to dictate what I can do on it, so stubbon mode on [-( ,great fryup, and a more sedate ride back, it was nice to feel included even if only for a bit, covered 134 miles today, not bad for a cripple on his fourth trip out, did feel guilty as I visited friends in Redhill (hadn't seen them in a year or so) spoke to them for about fifteen minutes then fell asleep, got woken by Ben's call and up and left , Got down to Sam & Rigors without incident, and then the STS (Sam's Taxi Service) to the pub (am I the first Org passenger ?), very pleasent drive no nail marks in the glovebox lid or anything ;) , great to talk with you all, you really don't know, being confined you really miss the simple things, Sarah, lovely to meet you and I have to appologies as I lies to you in this thread saying I wouldn't make it, seems I was wrong, generally had a blinding day with just about all the elements I could wish for, now add a proper bike and the ability and health to ride it and it would have been perfect, weather was nice as well.

As I said may well see you at the next Guildford meet.

Chers Mark

Definately one of the bestest biking days of my life. Ranks up there with passing my test, hitting the ton for the first time and my first wheelie! Thanks to everyone who made it, thanks to Sarah for organising it and for introducing me to some new roads around my favourite ride out area. When's the next one?
