Default What makes a CAT C write off?

Need to know whats needs to be done for a CAT C write off. All cosmetic, clutch lever, indicators and exhaust is loose. Is it just a case of replacing and getting it MOT'd or is it more than that?

Also reason they wrote the bike of is because of this. As you can see these are NOT caused by the accident. These look like someone went at it with a screwdriver. Waiting for the company to come back to me with explaination of where these have come from.

cat c as far as i'm aware is just an mot. if insurance company want something better then book it into a VOSA station or take it to your local suzuki dealer and get them to do a report.

If its gone through the system proper then there will be chalk marks over the bike indicating the area's of concern. The logbook will have to be re-applied for as the owner should have surrendered it to the insurance co. when they paid out. service history tends to go back to the ins co aswell and is lost forever - you could always contact previous owner on the logbook once you have it.

I dont think you even have to pay for the logbook in this situation.

It will just then need an MOT as previous poster mentioned. Cat C bikes don't need to go through the VIC test (which is stupid, but hey ho).

That doesn't look like screwdriver damage to me, looks like it's been leant against a brick wall, or a pebble dashed brick wall

On cat C car logbooks it does state that the vehicle is accident repaired. I only buy cat D bikes so I've yet to see a cat C bike one.

If thats it then I'd say thats a good buy!

Chris, sorry I get a bit confused over the V5 bit. I've had two accidents in the last 5 years and on both I didnt have to give them my V5. If its my bike why should I have to give them this. They dont own the bike I do. Thats where I get confused. Service history was minimal but again I have this with all my documents for the bike. I need explaining in schollboy English

As for the screw driver/pebble dash marks this is where we can all agree to disagree. This is not the best of shots but they are in three diffent places and when you lean the bike on the side stand would not make the marks left by a wall.

All sorted out now as the company involved have agreed to take the tank and have this repaired for me.

All in all the company have taken responsability unlike some companies who will flatly deny this happened in there posession.

If the insurance company take possession of the bike, which they didn't in your cases, then as they will become the owners of the bike they will ask you to surrender the V5 to them. They normally ask for the service history aswell - especially if you have used it to justify a higher than market value of the bike.

Seeing as you kept the bike they didn't go through that rigmoroll.

Nice to hear you've had a good experience with an Ins Co.
