Default Anyone work for BT?

I seem to remember we've got a couple of BT employees out there somewhere... hope someone can help.

I'm just trying to get a straight answer on something cos the call centre staff I spoke to don't seem to understand what I'm asking.

Is the Privacy at home service still going to be free after April? The billing for calls on our line goes straight to BT, no 3rd-party providers involved.

I'm trying to convince my mum to use Caller ID to screen her calls (stressful times going on at the moment with family stuff), but she won't agree to it unless it's free.

Thanks guys,

Andy

I know Bigape does, but he works in networking so I dont know if he'd be able to help...

and admin does too, but I'm not sure in the right department. When you call, I think you press button 5 to speak to him

i didn't think it was free, on my bill i got a £5.50 ish one off charge for caller id facility BT said it is free after initial charge is paid but forgot to ask if that meant one off each year or one off altogether... you know how unclear some companies can be.

See, this is what is so confusing - this page of BT's website clearly says (about half way down) that the 'Privacy At Home' option is free and includes Caller Display, but all the other stuff like the one peterco linked to says you have to pay for Caller ID as part of a feature package.

To make matters worse we got something through the post the other day saying all the calling plans, tariffs, extra features etc are changing price after April, so this option might not be free for much longer (assuming it is free now - and so we come back to the beginning )

See what I mean?

Having read your link,
Privacy at home is free, all they do is register your number with telephone preference service, the add on's you have to pay for like caller display.
That is how I've read it.

El Saxo, from the link you posted...

Customers with other call providers can still benefit from BT Caller Display at no extra cost if the following calls are made. So, Caller Display (aka Caller ID on your phone) is free, so long as you make chargeable calls through the BT call system, not someone else.

That's the way I read it at first, but somehow changed my mind, so I'm glad it's not just me that reads it that way!

Will have a chat with Mum...
