Thumbs down 4000 mile service - query

Had my SV650 sport serviced on Tuesday by a Suzuki dealership (£161) for it's 4,000 mile service (only did so to maintain it's warranty).

Two queries:

1. They gave me a "checklist" to confirm what they had done. One of them states they checked all lights (headlamp, indicators etc) and everything was fine. Yet one of the headlight bulbs was not working BEFORE I took the bike to them (and is still not working) as this is due to a blown bulb. How can I therefore be confident that they have completed the rest of the service competently ?

2. They advised that the bike required new rear brake pads as "...the pads have come away from the backing plate". Surley this would be a Warranty issue ?

I'm looking for some members advice before I contact them on both issues - thanks in advance.

You can't, allow me to refer you back to my first quote:

I would have thought that brake pads are consumable and as such not replaceable under warranty?

Good afternoon all.

They'll just say that the lights were fine when they checked it, & that it must have blown since.......Your word against theirs.

As to the brake pads. Yes, they're a consumable item, & if worn out you would have to pay for the replacements, but in this case the pads are defective & should be replaced under warranty. As Yamaha were doing some years ago on R1's etc when they had a similar problem.

I'm surprised they let you take your bike with separating pads, it is a safety issue after all.

Cheers.

Apologies, they replaced the pads during the service.

Another query (sorry !) - according to the handbook, service intervals are every 3,500 miles ? So my next one is at 7,500 then 11,000 then 14,500 ??

Correct indeed. Though bear in mind the type of use you put the bike to. I.E. If you do a lot of traffic work you may want to bring the mileage down slightly, as stop & go type of riding is harder on the bike than cruising empty roads (if you can find one).

Cheers.
