Default Honda vfr 400 nc24

Cheers for the help guys!!!. I jump started the bike from another one & it goes no problem but the temp is very high & dont know what causes the high temp if its the regulator or the rectifier????. If anyone knows then please get in touch. Other than that the bike is running like a dream. But there must be an underlining problem that drains the battery & runs it very hot.

Water pump can eat itself on those if fed tap water and silica rich coolent.

Pop the top rad cap off (when cold) and rev it (a bit, not to 15k ), you should see the level drop every time you rev it. If there is nothing but vibration ripples then pump is likely dead.

Or you could just have no coolant!

Further to FD there, my dad's NC24 had a dead thermostat, so the fan never switched on to cool the bike down. Check the fan actualy comes on (watch it) else check the connections

for future info, the regulator/rectifer is a single unit, and its purpose is to regulate the high voltage output from the alternator into a voltage that wont blow up the battery. Typically, the alternator could be putting out maybe 70 volts at 5000 rpm; the regulator/rectifier then limits this down to a maximum of 14.5 volts across the whole rev range. This allows the battery to charge, but not to cook

As a result, the reg/rec must dump the excess voltage as some other energy, in the form of heat.

WRT the fan, you can test the fan at least works by unpluging the connector to the thermo switch on the rad and earthing the connector (with the ign on).
