My chain seems to get dry very fast. I find myself having to spray my chain after every ride because if I don't, when I accelerate there's a quiet tapping/grinding noise. It's hard to explain, but it just doesn't sound smooth. As soon as I lube up, it sounds and feels a lot smoother. Is it normal to be having to spray my chain about every 50 mile? I think I remember reading in the manual it needs to be done every 300 miles. Has my chain had it? I'm using Wurth dry chain lube if that makes any difference.

I adjust my chain every 500m, & I've never used Wurth dry chain, I've only ever used Castrol Chain Wax, when adjusting the chain I'll spray it on, do 20m on the M/way come home, check & re-spray. But I check it every weekend anyways, I do about 50mile a week but nothing wrong with checking it on a regular basis.

I've used that stuff, and don't remember it being rubbish.
I do 200 miles a week currently, and try to do my chain every weekend. I pull the chain through a paraffin rag a few times, then a dry rag, before giving each side of the chain a good spray. Make sure you lube the inside of the chain, so it gets forced outwards when being used. |

Umm if you knows its the chain, get it checked out and get a new 'D.I.D' chain if its had it!

Halfords chain wax seems to stay on fairly well. Sometimes think a Scottoiler would be easier though

I use silkolene lube spray, quality stuff.
I used to bike regularly and always sprayed my chain at least once a week. I need to get round to teach myself how to adjust chain! Last edited by musne; 18-02-12 at 11:03 PM. |

V system scottoiler. Properly adjusted it knocks spray on chain lube into a cocked hat!
