Default Unhappy engine?

The bikes been layed up since the week before xmas so as I suspected no battery. Called the AA, put the phone down as that was my alcohol dependance one.. :-0 Called the right one and bike was duly started. Now though it's revving at about 3000 revs. So I twiddle the screw and get the revs down to normal - just over 1000 as I remembered and went out for a good run.

Found though that the bike is very weird, keeps jumping at constant throttle and especially noticable at under 30mph. I thought a good blast might clear it but seem not to be. Very weird, almost pulsing. At tick over you can hear the engine going up and down as well. It also cut out a couple of times during the ride and i had to adjust the tick over once. Any ideas?

Cheers
Sean

Check to see if the choke is stuck

Is ti a carbed model? sounds like a vacuum leak to me, could have split or loosened a hose when the tank was lifted.

i thought the engine had to idle at 1300 prm +/- 100. when i adjusted mine it was too low intially (about 1,100rpm) and the engine did act a bit wierd. moved it up a bit and now it is fine. make sure the engine is nice and hot when you make adjustments though.

The choke is normal. Not to sure about carbed - 2001 k1 curvey if that's any help. My girlfriend thinks it's the sparkplugs... could this be it?

Sparks would make it run badly, wouldn't usually make it race. I bet you 10p it's a vacuum leak

I'm accusing the vaccum, because nobody's done anything to mess with the choke But lifting and dropping the tank could start a vacuum leak. But it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong

....but has anyone lifted the tank

Infact I'm so confident I'll raise my bet. One English £ to a Scottish £. Yeah yeah I know that's a steal of an "odd" but I'm feeling flush

I suspect one or both choke plungers is partially seized.

Ah, yes, there you have a point- for some reason I was stupidly thinking they'd have lifted the tank to jump start it. I have no idea why.

Oh well.
