Need advice regarding a problem I have with the DVLA off all people.
I bought an FZR400 as a project bike without a logbook, took a chance I know as I never heard it run and it was missing rear end bodywork and defo had an older front end on it. It's a 3TJ Jap import model, it's not hard to tell if you know your Yams. Still worth £150 in my book. It came with a no plate and the frame number even to my often bleary eyes looks untampered with. Finally got round to applying for the logbook. Comes back and... ...its frame number is 1 digit different from the bike ![]() So I take a big photo of the frame number, 2 clear frame rubbings of the number (as advised in an email from them) & pop it all in the post to DVLA with a covering letter and V5 saying bike is available to inspect anytime etc etc. Today the replacement logbook arrives... ...and they haven't changed the chassis number ![]() Whats the best way about getting this done? Anyone else ever had to do this? I assumed they would contact me at least to discuss it? Am I literally going to have to lug the frame to a DVLA office..... TIA Chris

Sounds to me as if you are doing everything you can and should, and you're right to stick with it and get it sorted. It might be worth a phone call to your local DVLA office (even if it's not that local) and speak to someone in person. If you get their name and can persuade them to take an interest then you might be able to send them all the paperwork and they will have a bit more incentive to fix it (personal touch and all that).

I had a similar issue when I registered an engine number change. Log book came back with change of address but still had the old engine number. I rang them up, they went through the paperwork and were happy I had requested correctly. The reason they didn't change it was because they needed a letter from a garage to say it was the same sort of engine but nobody thought to tell me that.
The chap I spoke to gave me a new address to send the paperwork to and stated he would deal with it personally. Sent in the V5 again to the new address, had a letter from a garage stating the frame number was accurate and the correct type for the vehicle declared on the V5 (ie, not a trike or car etc). After a couple of weeks it came back sorted. All you need is a friendly garage with some headed paper for the validation letter. Was surprisingly simple second time around.
