Hi all im thinking about treating my self to a 1000 in a couple of months and was just wondering what the difference in mpg is between the 650s I have now and the 1000.
My 650 isn't that great on fuel although she is regularly serviced tb,s have been balanced thanks to a forum member, Air filter plugs and oil probably changed to often if im being honest ![]() Anyway I still only manage to get about 110 on a full tank from light on to light on again. So was wondering what I should expect to get out of a 1000cc. Many thanks... |

Like all bikes it depends very much on your right hand.
The figures for my Thou were :- Best : 130 - Motorway riding Worst : 63 - 'Spirited' ride around the local roads Average : 90 ish - mixed riding The above figures are when the fuel light came on & stayed on & are all post-snorkelectomy - the furthest I ever rode it beyond the fuel light was 35 miles(motorway riding).

another big factor with the SV is how much fuel are you actually putting in the tank. the SV has a big air pocket and to fill properly takes ages as you have to dribble the petrol in. if your just filling it up and leaving it short of the filler then no wonder your only getting 110 miles out a tank as your more than likely only got 15ltr in the tank.
always calculate to MPL and not what you get out a tank. anyway the thou is a thirsty burger if your happy with the throttle. being a thou v-twin it also eats tyres, chains and sprockets unless you ride sensibly. |

Big v twin is going to need more petrol as its heavy compared to.the 650.
Is mpg or grin factor more important. If mpg is get one of them honda 700 things.

Mpg isn't a massive factor I was just after a comparison against the amount of fuel I use now...
Oh and yes I am a bit heavy on the throttle ![]() |

I used to get about 130 between fills on my curvy 650 and currently get 112 on my K3 thou. Tyres, chains and the like seem to last just as long but then I'm not particularly ham-fisted.

Its not a direct comparison ,But 200 miles general twisties commute to and from work on the SV curvie to RSV R I used an extra 6 to 8 lts per week,in the dry.
I'm not smooth and ruined the rear tyre on its edges in 4000 miles(Corsa 3). Its chain was fine but i use a oiller with EP gear oil
