Default Thermostat hose not connected?

Hi all, just bought myself a 1999 sv650x which I'm very happy about! Just had it delivered, and I've noticed something that looks missing? I've attached a pic, although it's not great. Is this the thermostat housing and if so, why would it not be connected? Any help appreciated, thank you!

thats the carb heaters. yes they should be connected but it wont matter too much till winter comes in. could also be that the carbs were swapped out for later ones so the heater connectors are not on the loom.

I wish people would understand that carb icing is not a winter issue.
Carbs ice up due to the evaporating fuel cooling the carb body down. Remember school, latent heat of evaporation! Or more simply when you lick your hand and blow on it, it gets colder than just blowing on your hand. This has always happened but the problem is much worse with modern fuels with lots of volatiles in them that evaporate much more readily than petrol. Once the carb body is below dew point temperature, condensation forms on the body as the carb cools further then ice forms. If there is any water in your fuel it freezes and can block you jets or reduce the venturi bore.
You are more likely to get carb icing on a hot humid day than on a cold crisp one. This is because the dew point on a hot day might be 13 degrees whilst on a cold day it might be -5. So the carb has to get much colder before any condensation can form.
Google carb icing in aeroplanes for a better explanation.
Here endeth the rant.

Interesting - but do you know why they're only used on UK models? Is it not a problem on the continent?

thats me told.. lol

one thing to note is that carb freezing is a lot less common as it used to be due to modern fuels.

most of the carb freezing threads happen on this forum during the winter so that has to say something although there aint been any for a long time.

yes many many years ago i have been victim to such shenanigans when cars had points, were rear drive and petrol was 4 star. them were the days

Thank you for this information - at least I know what it is now! Do I just leave it as is then, or should I look into getting it connected up again? I'm likely to use it through winter but only on the days with decent weather probably.
